The conference thing seems real to me - though why the Atlanta City Church, who owns the website, doesn't have it on their calendar- I can't tell. Should we call or email them to find out? It wouldn't hurt I guess.

My opinion:
I guess the church doesn't mind using misleading tags in their youtube ads. I can imagine them thinking "Hey, no worries with leading people looking for say the latest dirt on Britney Spears or for 1-18-08 updates to our conference, we're doing it for their own good." Actually they are probably thinking: more hits - more money just like any other advertiser with a product to sell.

Actually the current tags are:
Quote:
1 18 08 conference immersed remnant arg ethan haas alternate reality game lost fox crash break
So it seems they dropped Ms. Spears.

Although it was pretty transparent to figure out, so whatever. Rolling Eyes Stealth religous marketing - why does that seem so cult like to me? I know my church would never do that. We tend to be more open about what we are doing.

I agree - there's an unhealthy lack of honesty about their approach. Something that you would hope to associate with a religious conference.

I don't see it as stealth marketing.. its just another way to get people to look who wouldn't be looking otherwise, yes, but they're not trying to make money on this game, from what I can see so far.

Its funny the knee jerk reactions that a Christian based ARG have stimulated. No one thought twice about the video murders on Ten Dead as being 'unhealthy', or the Electric Church's bizarre storyline, how about that "healthy" ARG called "The Human Pet".

And Chaotic Fiction ARGS by nature are stealthy and discrete and if you know anything about the REMNANT or what it will be, you will know that its nature is going to be 'underground'. Just because a church stands for honesty, doesn't mean they don't enjoy a good fictionalized game that might educate people about what they believe.

Dont discount it because it comes from a place you wouldnt normally think about as being ARGish...isnt that being a little closed minded?

On the contrary, religion is one of the most "ARGish" places there is.
These people are living in their own alternate reality everyday, where woman have baby's while still virgins, where dinosaurs and man walked the earth together, and where when they die they go to a magical land were everything is always happy and all their dreams come true forever.
Crazy.

AHH but we shall see! (said the blind man).. Wink

and you've just proven one of my points.... the so called enlightened, "open minded" people who shut their minds down when it comes to Christianity.. either a scientist who has to be able to see it or prove something scientifically, or someone who finds it in their self to believe in UFOs, life 'auras', and psychics.

and where do you see a dinosaur in the Bible?

i wont continue debating, as this is slightly off the subject though.

You're right, I don't see them asking for money anywhere yet. (see below)

Why does a church using stealth marketing techniques to get more hits on their youtube video bother me? I have a mistrust of religious groups who aren't upfront about who they are and what they are doing. (Actually that mistrust probably applies to any game that uses fake tags to get more hits on their videos. ) If they want to be seen as just another marketer looking to increase youtube views, then they have accomplished that goal.

Just tell people who you are from day 1 - that way you reach people who would be happy to play.

If I have the right page it seems that the conference costs $39 (plus you get a free T-shirt) before January 15 and $47 after (no T-shirt)

http://immersedconference.com/registration.htm

Here are the speakers:
http://immersedconference.com/speakers.htm

Quote:
Pastors Billy & Jennifer Huffman are the founding youth pastors of the Immersed Conference. They have been pastoring the next generation for the last decade and have a driving passion to redefine the youth culture of America based on the Word of God. They currently reside in sunny Seattle, WA. with their three exceptionally good-looking children: Judah, Caleb & Serenity. Pastor Billy's love for God and the next generation is contagious to all those who come in contact with him. He has been a role model for the many leaders that now run Generation Surge ministries, without him and his influence these people would not be who they are today. His gift in communicating the word of God will leave you thirsty and searching for more.

Quote:
Acclaimed by Ministries Today as "America's Number One Youth Pastor," Jeanne Mayo has thrown her heart and passion into youth ministry for nearly four decades. Her ministry DNA is reflected in her life mission statement: "The motivation and mentorship of Kamikaze Christianity into practicing and potential Kingdom champions." In recent years, Jeanne founded Youth Source, a non-profit organization that seeks, "To instruct, equip, inspire and encourage the youth pastors and youth leaders of this generation." Through Youth Source, Jeanne is now focusing on leaving a legacy for youth pastors and youth leaders of this generation. She is a coach, mentor and "Big Sis" to youth leaders across the country. Jeanne is also pouring her heart into creating resources designed specifically for those impacting the lives of teenagers. She is a regular columnist for Group Magazine and Ministries Today. She most recently authored the popular leadership book, Thriving Youth Groups.

Quote:
At 11 years old, Pastor Judah first heard God's voice calling him to minister to the youth of his generation. He preached his first message at age 13 then went on to see hundreds of people saved on his high school campus. After completing the generation interns program, Judah married Chelsea, the only girl he ever held hands with and became Pastor Jude Fouquier's associate youth pastor. Pastor Judah has had the honor of traveling around the world preaching to hundreds of thousands of people, but his true passion is to build the church and see an entire region transformed. Since becoming the youth pastor in 2002 he has seen Generation Church grow from 500 to over 1300 students in four different locations. On a sunny day you can find him on the golf course or taking his wife and son on a hike.

So, yeah, I think it is safe to say that they have a message they want to send out...redefining youth culture based on the word of God...

which is different from the goal of telling a fictional story or promoting a movie -those ARGs aren't ultimately going to try to tell you what you should believe...and then sell you tickets to a conference.

Nothing says desperate like "Britney Spears" in the tag of your video.

With all of the REAL odd and covert things going on in the world, websites like EverythingIsGoingToChange.com do not thrill me but honestly freaks me out. It's almost as if phoney conspiracies like this are intentionally being created by huge corporations in an attempt to make ALL conspiracy theories look like a joke so that no one will believe them at all (and that is VERY dangerous to society, because then governments and businesses can commit major attrocities, cover it up, and then give a totally different story of what happened - and who then will believe anyone who comes forth with the truth!).

But, as far as this site goes (I'm assuming it is a promo for a video game or something...?), I just wanted to mention two interesting things that I noticed.

First, a person on another thread of this board says that the date he saw at the site was 10-12-07, and the creator of this thread says the date he saw way 10-18-07. I just saw the site for the first time today (Saturday 10-13-07) and the date given to me was 10-26-07. Very strange.

Secondly, although this site is a .com address, neither the Internet Explorer window tag for it nor the Yahoo! book mark name for this site shows it's .com name, but shows up as "EXPECT MORE..."

Just some oddities I wanted to mention.
But there seems to be some disagreement on one thing that I'd like to get input on. Namely, is this site associated with 01-18-08, or is it just an unrelated coincidence like EthanHaasWasRight.com, which is registered to the Freemason's Washington Memorial under the name of Albert Pike (the Sovereign Grand Pontiff of Freemasonry back in the 1800's)?

No, this site is not associated with 1-18-08. The Atlanta City Church, or whoever is behind this, just used tags for 1-18-08 in their youtube posting. This way people searching for 1-18-08 would find thier unrelated video and look at it. The cheap and cheesy nature of this kind of marketing is what I was objecting to. And for a church to use it? Makes me wonder why they feel the need to rip off the hype from other enterprises.

(Is this "tag jacking"? Maybe I've heard that "quiz jacking" commerciall too many times.)

The reason the dates are different is that they update the video, add a bit more and then update the date for the next installment.

Thanks rose.

Just another question and a comment.

Could someone PLEASE tell me what "Viral Marketing" is? I've seen it used several times when browsing for stuff on 1-18-08. "Viral" implies something containing a virus, and in computer terms that is a VERY BAD thing.

Also, just a comment on something odd.
When you type "EverythingIsGoingToChange.com" into Yahoo's search browser, the only thing that comes up is two links to this site (that's how I found you guys)! The everythingisgoingtochange.com site itself doesn't even come up, nor does it show links to the YouTube videos.

hmg,

ok, first let me say your 'conspiracy theory theory.. is well rather humorous. LOL.

second, as someone else has stated.. ethan haas, 1-18-08 and any other tags on these two videos are only there to get the tag surfers attention. This arg has nothing to do with those games (or er lack of games, in the case of ethan)

if you've read all the posts in this thread, and read all the websites affiliated with this game, you'll find this is about a youth conference... maybe (and i hope there is) there will be something else but i doubt it will be a video game.
who knows though.

yahoo.com doesnt know everything.

if you want to learn some of the terminology try this forum:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/index.php?f=5

hope this helps,

ncfriend

eta: oh and about the the .com not being in the book mark, when the page has an html tag naming the title, the book mark saves as the title of the page.. not the url. hth!

oh, and if you register (do it! it's free) you will be able to edit your previous posts.

There's nothing worse then people getting into anal debates over fiction (which is why I never layed D&D), but I will comment anyway....

ncfriend wrote:

Well of course it sounds humorous, and that is the exact result I said would happen. Thank you for demonstrating precisely what I meant.

Have no idea what an ARG is, Iam aware that the tags are there for attention. Never disputed this and I've no a clue why you think I have.

Uh...
1) Yes I have...
2) Yes I did...
3) I agree...
4) there are several websites which disagree... (it is a possibility that the website and the Christian conference have nothing in common whatsoever and that their shared name is merely coincidental... if you do a web search just on the phrase "everything is going to change" you will see MANY religious links which have nothing to do ith each other. I might recommend that everyone who sees "Christian scandal" in these videos, that they put a check on their automatic bias against Christianity. If anyone can verify proof of any connection between the two groups, let's not resort to slander).

ncfriend wrote:

I'll give you that one.
But it is still rather odd.
Even my little hole in the wall website is listed repeatedly on yahoo.com.
Why wouldn't there be ANY other mention of those other sites?
(Incidently, not every single reflective and rhetorical question or comment needs to be commented on.)

Thanks. Would have been nice to have just received an answer to the simple question, but I'll take the time to go out of my way to check the site.

Thanks for the info. This post is not meant to be as belligerant as it might come across (well, maybe just a tad, but no real offenses meant). None of this stuff is worth fighting about. How we treat one another, however, is a whole different ball game.
