why are you all thinking the "line" in the water is leading TOWARDS the city?????? in all threads regarding the original image of the movie, everybody says it leads towards the city

if you compare it with water traces from ships or subs on periscope deph,
it is more like leading out of the city, towards the SOL.........

maybe it goes like that....

some military actions against the monster, what could explain the explosion, it hides into the water....... jumps on the SOL beeing pissed off by the military attack, rips off the head and throws it after some tanks or helicopters

and dont forget the statue has been turned on her base around facing towards the city

and if you still argue with yourself about the trace in the water leading into or out of the city......
think of that ets shouting i've seen it its huge its alive and so on, which is proof that he is saying that and not some lion shit (by the officially translated trailers for different countries)

we know that between the explosion (rob's on the roof) and the scene on the street, with the shouting guy "i've seen it, it's alive blablabla..." are only a few seconds

we know where the party scene takes place, so we know which distance it still has to the water

the guy surely is not bionic with speedy legs.... soooooooo

the monster was in the city some time before the big explosion,

and after the explosion the head

you can still see freshly falling parts off and still smoke at the neck of the statueso the timeline is clear

what means....... the water trace leads out of the city

If it is escaping, or leaving the city, that would explain a few things. The earthquake/roar without any explosion could be the initial emergence of the creature, from whatever point. Then the explosion... could that possibly be why the military is so quickly present in the area. I could see a possible military attack on an escaped/emerged creature, and the armament actually bouncing off and spreading wildly through the surrounding area. Then the creature makes it's way to the most logical choice of egress, the harbor. See's something resembling the humans that attacked it, only it's size, and goes for the throat, bouncing her head back in the direction of it's attackers.

I do not believe the poster can be considered IG for purposes of using it as a source. For the fact it has so many inconsistencies. Yes, it is official but I do not think anything can come out of it.

However, I have though of a theory which explains the inconsistencies:

Poster is set the morning after, this explains the light. There is a reasonable amount of damage as seen by the smoke and the hole that it came through. Perhaps it retreated, or perhaps it just left. It did not cause massive amounts of damage.

As for the next bit, it can be either:

A) The wake is of the monster leaving, on the way out he makes a second slash at the SoL, this explains why the claw mark is fresh.

B) The monster has already left, and is now back, again slashing the SoL a second time before going for a second round.

Remember that smoke you see coming around the corner, the one people thought they saw the 'smoke monster' in? It's billowing into the street from the direction that the head flies in from. That implies that the carnage is coming towards them. It also explains why people are still running away, especially as distant as the SoL is from the location of the trailer. One wouldn't know to run from an oncoming object from a source they can't see. Someone telling people as he's running away that 'I saw it, it's alive, it's huge' also doesn't suggest it's retreating. Someone running in abject fear and not stopping for blocks after losing sight of the monster and it retreating doesn't stop to notify people of what's up.
