Actually, the ship (the Grandview, IIRC) that blew up in Texas City in '47 was carrying ammonium nitrate (fertilizer --- jihadists' favorite ingredient in truck bombs nowadays), not oil.

If we're pretty sure that the explosion in the trailer takes place inland on Manhattan Island, I'll forego the tanker theory --- although I like Kinpgin's explanation, that maybe the monster chucked it into town (it has definitely shown a predisposition for throwing things, like the heads of large statues...hell, if it's big enough, a tanker ain't out of the question).

Guy's (and a special shout out to the ladies, you know who you are)
Let's take it for granted that what we see in the trailer is a party involving some, if not all, of the main characters. We know two things for certain. They(some of them, it doesn't ever specify WHO'S apartment it is, but it does give clues as to college, taste in art, and religion) live on Broadway, and someone threw a wicked cut-off to the short stop, almost 38 blocks to the front door of Washington Park (cause the sign 401 Broadway is a clue, 401 Park seems like it would fall right in the middle of the Park, but in JJ land it doesn't). Then everyone runs to the roof, cause JJ and Rob think it's a cool idea to watch the destruction, whatever it is. (What is the deal with Americans and our love of watching the train wreck?) Sorry, soapbox. From there, we see an explosion occur, which to my eye looks like a very near hit to the area that ground zero occurred (WTC). The debris/shrapnel from this event actually ignites/combusts mid-flight on at least two or three individual paths. You can see the mid-flight explosions, and hear them as well. Everyone pushes their way inside, and down to street level. From there, we get the OMG, OMG, OMG, and where's Jason? And it's a lion!!! It's huge!!!!! (sorry, thought that was great.....) But what happens in between the moments, the moment when Rob reaches down to the original cameraman in the stairs ( check it, camera position goes static, and Rob reaches for something over screen, looks like he's checking/grabbing something) next solid movement is coming out the door at street level. and the following exchange between the girls and Rob about Jason. Then the strange whirring sound(assume it's the force of SOL's head careening towards them. Tha's some force to actually displace that much air en-route. Speaking of Lady Lib's head. It's carry-on luggage, or the explosion is NOT caused by the creature, but by something else impacting mid-city. The ship being thrown mid-city holds water, i can see that. The head being thrown from same point, or very near, would also hold true. That would tell us that all of this destruction is coming from the harbor, and the creature hasn't even set foot on land yet.

Here's the 64,000 dollar question. If we are supposed to accept the poster as a hint, and the trailer as well.... What type of creature, and what size, would be able to tear the head off of SOL UPWARDS(cause that's the physics of it, it's an upwards swipe, claws start at an angle to suggest penetration mid thorax, and end in complete decap of head and partial shoulder) and yet be small enough to not be seen cross town in the trailer. If it's an upward strike, then the creature is well over 305 ft tall. (True height from pedestal to torch, reading is fun AND mental)

New York is illuminated at all times, Broadway is one of the biggest energy draws in the entire state( which is why they're running new power lines through PA, ass-clowns) So why cant anything be seen above the skyline? Somewhere here is the rub. What if SOL's head is ripped off from ABOVE? And what if a stray ship in the harbor is plucked up and DROPPED mid-city? Never mind the wake in the poster, for all we know it could be rescue crews ferrying out to Ellis island. Why can't we see a creature who should physically be visible, yet eludes the lights of a fully lit NYC? Cause he's above them. Why does it have to be a land or sea spawned creature? why couldn't this possibly be avian?

This rant was brought to you by the number 1807, and the fine folks at Anheiser Busch.

Anything's possible.

Here's *my* theory about the monster in the trailer: I think the monster is *supposed* to be there....the infamous "smoke monster" that's been discussed ad nauseam in other threads here and elsewhere....

...and that "smoke monster" is just a smokescreen (literally) that the fx guys cooked up for the trailer to hide the REAL monster from us. But we'll see that same scene -- of Rob, Lil and Lena running out into the street; Lil shouting "What is it? Is it coming this way?"; the guy saying "I saw it, it's alive, it's HUGE!"; "Where's Jason?"; then everyone looking up in horror as they see IT....

...and as we get closer to release date, a new teaser will show IT....or at least *hint* at IT....without the temporary "smokescreen" in place this time.

Now that I think of it, the trailer reminds me of the one from halo 3.

No monster to be seen

Hi folks, - new -

I'm pretty certain that the monster hadn't been designed when the trailer was released with Transformers, and probably wasn't designed when the poster was made.

I don't think anything was intentionally hidden in the trailer by smoke, or that there's anything actually in the smoke to be seen - because I honestly don't think there was a monster to yet put in - does that make any sense?

I mean, how often is a film complete when the initial teaser is released for a major blockbuster? I remember seeing a Transformers preview, which was just the logo for an autobot months before any official trailer - and same thing with Terminator III, just the wicked-awesome theme music and the title. I don't think details were omitted, the trailer was just too early to include.

No monster.

Keep up the good work.

Does anyone know what actually casts the SOL's head across New York City? I don't see it being anything other than a) The force of the explosion across town, or b) The monster throwing the head under its own strength. In either case, the explosion came from land, which was established earlier in this thread I believe...

Anywho, I guess what I'm saying is that The monster must have been carrying the head for at least some of its journey, which to me says it possesses opposable thumbs?

With all due respect, I believe we have dissected the trailer from more than ten angles, and I doubt that this entire physics issue is really worth the time some people are putting into it. There was a massive explosion, it's all we heard, the debris was big, it hit more than one building. Let's please move on. Surprised
