Forum Guidelines - READ THIS BEFORE POSTING Updated January 6, 2008 Hi, and, especially to all newcomers, welcome to Unfiction! I'd like to urge you to read through these posting guidelines we ask everyone to follow, so you know what is expected of you.
This section of the Cloverfield forums is for discussing the movie and the online campaign, and any news and/or updates related to them. Please be advised that we do not have a spoiler-free section!
The general forum guidelines are as follows:
Please, please, please, Search the forums before posting, as you may well be asking a question or posting information that has alreadybeen posted. If so, don't post a new thread ; add it to the already existing one(s)
Euchre has written an excellent post on how to effectively use the search-function . I recommend reading it.
If you do create a new thread, tag it so that it reflects its content, i.e. [QUESTION], [UPDATE], [NEW], [PUZZLE], etc. (see below)*
Keep discussion of the same subject(s) in the same thread
Be nice. See the Unfiction Terms of Services for a broader definition
Due to the increased prevalence of trolls, spammers, etc., guest posting for this particular forum has been disabled. Guests are still welcome to read this section of the forum, however, registration is required to post replies or create new topics.
Please be advised that repeatedly ignoring these rules may result in your account being disabled or even your IP address being banned. Feel free to send me or any of the other moderators a private message if you have questions.

It's a way to politely show that something that has been posted has been found before. Should always be accompanied by a link to the relevant thread and is affectionate. See full explanation in the glossary thread here .

I didn't know where else to post this, so hopefully someone will see it here.
There seems to be a bug or virus on this site. Starting just recently, whenever I close the Unfiction.com window, dozens of windows open up and totally overwhelm my computer so that I have to shut it down and reboot. I haven't seen something like this since the days when people would boot in yahoo messenger chatrooms.
It isn't my firewall. This is happening both in ON and OFF modes. Anyone know what's up?

This is most likely some spy/malware you are infected with locally. I would start running virus/malware/spyware/adware scans.

I am having trouble with establishing an Avatar. I have uploaded several photos onto my Photobucket account, but whenever I placed the IMG code into the Avatar upload bar, it said the URL was invalid. Any ideas?

Please review the picture size for any avatars. uF does not automatically resize avatars. The guidelines request them to be < 100x100 pixels.
Thanks!

Some of those URLs they give you have variables passed in the GET strings, like you see with the URLs for topics on the forums (e.g. blah.com/index.php?variable=something&this=that). These won't work. You'll need to find a direct link to the image itself that you can put into the Avatar input box.

Thanks. It's working perfectly now. It took forever, but I finally got it.

I'm sure most long time forum users have seen this at least once, but I think it's a good lighthearted way to explain how to approach posting and topic creation on any forum:

I especially like the mantra:

It is always better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one!
