Second Life Avatars Controlled by the Human Brain

Latecomer as usual, but I stumbled over The Simulation Argument and found it intriguing. I love Second Life anyway, it's a lot of fun but the appeal of it really wasn't the surprising toon porn, it was the whole idea of having artificial reality load in front of me in every direction...it just reminded me so much of an online novel I read awhile back that I just fell in love with - The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect

Every time I'd log into SL, I started feeling like Caroline and the death jockey matches.

Putting them both together, it's intriguing as hell that we might all just be simulations - even simulations of simulations.

One of the postulations in the sim argument is the 2nd one, if we reach a posthuman state, we would not likely run ancestor evolution sims on our history. I don't buy that one for a second...we already do, it's been the foundation for most of our scientific advances, viewing the past to see how we got to the present, and where we might be headed.

Where we might be headed?

Ahhh....this one just makes ya go HOLY SHIT! Shocked

Your mention of the whole simulation thing reminded me of this great little short story that deals with quantum computing and simulations: http://www.qntm.org/responsibility

As for the talk of the computer brain interface, I remember hearing years ago about the US military experimenting with controlling jets like that (and the interesting fact that apparently women tended to be better at it than men). Course, call me jaded, but it always seems like there are cool revolutionary technologies on the horizon that seem to stay there. Like the light emitting plastic that was to be used to make printable screens, which I heard about around 8 years ago. Basically, WHERE'S MY FLYING CAR??

It is surprising to me that any Second Life avatar is controlled by a human brain Wink
