Just a tip to the music major ^.^

There is a way to encode messages into music. But I'm not telling

Couldn't you do it by backmasking? It's generally not thought to be accurate, but if you record backwards messages into tracks of songs, supposedly they become subliminal messages.

EDT: OH! Could the symbol perhaps be some musical notation thing? Or maybe something to do with the physics of sound?

No, JC wants a deeper code i'm thinkin...like rhythms in music immitating morse, or ciphers hidden withen the naturals, sharps, and flats in the A-G music notation. No to mention with rests you could add pauses, you could code entire documents into a rhythm of sheet music. With music there are so many different ways to code, and you coudl even use the italian musical idea like Andante or Mysterioso to describe HOW the code is done. Like a Mysterioso score might have actual words coded into the musical notations while a different style of music could describe using music rhythms in morse...it's endless!

Or with Vocal music, the lyrics can mean code...like the slave song "Follow the Drinking Gourd"

Now that you mention it...the symbol does resemble a cross between a bass and treble clef...but I doubt it's musical in nature.

Whoops! Looks like you told.
Well, we already have heard morse code, so what you're saying make sense to me.

I'm sort of blindly groping for the symbol. First I though astrological, then alchemical, then musical. I took a closer look and thought it might look tribal, but I have NO idea where to start on that one other than poring through endless loads of tattoo art.

yes, you are correct... there is a way to encode messages into music, I believe what you are refering to is called spectrographs. At first glance though, I immediately thought this image could be hiding something in stenography... then again I'm pretty new to all of this. I did sign up on the redmonday site and get similar communications, however I am at a loss myself, just trying to help out for the cause.

You don't think the "music code" reference has anything to do with the background noise in the latest phone conversation, do you?

When I played with it, I didn't get anything out of it. Then again, I'm not very skilled in audio editing.

I've been playing around with the sound. I'm not really used to it either... Tried with Winamp's equalizer and Audacity. It sounds like the regular background fill you might find in a movie... I even tried reversing the whole thing like somebody said, but it didn't make any sense...

EDIT: I think I've managed to understand a couple of words here and there.
A man saying something like "Oh, yeah, it looks like some kinda..." at around 0:46-0:47. About ten seconds later, a man (possibly the same one) says something like "We're gonna study these/this". At 1:02, something like "sometime later". Can't get much more, though (it's 23:45 here, and the only pair of headphones I've got in my room aren't working right now). I heard all of these using winamp (equalizer on): general sound at +12db, 370 and 600 at +12db, and the rest at -12db. I ain't a pro at this, but that's as clear as it gets using a common player equalizer. Sorry if I wasn't clear on the specifications for the equalizer....

I couldnt get anything off audacity either, but then again there really shouldnt be any background noise at all if Saul and JC are working undercover and alone...so there is most likely something in it. Ugh.

It sounds to me like a TV in the background, but it pops up at a weird time (after JC asks about the Eschelon tap). I could understand if it was playing straight through. I also wonder which phone the noise is coming from.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense. Saul mentions that he got JC into this because internal affairs wasn't supposed to find out. However, he yells (a lot, speccialy when he says "it's my a** on the line here"), yet, the background noise is just a gentle sound, like a regular workplace discussion.

My guess is that there is a conversation. It just sounds like iddle chatter, but it might prove useful later on... We should keep trying to find a code in it, anyways...

the background noise sounds like it's not a natural voice. In other words, it's coming from a speaker. It sounds like either it's a recording of somebody in a large room, or he's in a public place with somebody speaking, because there is a slight echo effect making it sound like it's sound being played into a room. I would rule out him being in a public place. Especially saying information like that, and with him yelling that if it was a silent room with a public speaker he'd draw attention to himself, so I rule that out. Next would be he's listening to something prerecorded.

He says he has classified information, who's to say some info isn't recorded. It may be something he was listening to while on the phone with her.

It may JUST be background noise, just a TV station, or a news channel. The lack of music accompanyment like in most TV dramas and movies tells me that if it IS a tv program it's something that isn't meant for entertainment. Maybe like a news station or even possibly something like an evangelical channel...maybe C-Span...something boring and mundane is what it sounds like. He may have been watching current political tele-casts and it was heard over the phone...but whatever it is I think somebody should see if they can't pick apart that sound file and find what the background noise is.
