Hello, to all my friends up in Allentown.
Was hoping to be able to write a little here in this new journal, but looks like I have to head out right away. I'm going to take it easy, so I don't know if I'll be able to check this journal over the next week. I'll try though. Heading down to say 'Hi' to the family for a few days, then it's off to the St. Kits Yearly Planning Expo. Should be an interesting time this year, really hoping to make some new contacts. This freelance lifestyle is turning out to be pretty tough.

I was able to get a cheap flight, but it's a snoozer. Doesn't depart until 9:35 PM EDT on Sunday, July 1st. Got to make sure I'm on time, because that is the only flight. Luckily it's a short flight, I'll only be on it for about an hour or so. I'm really hoping to see Larry down there. Been trying to get in touch, but he hasn't been around. Haven't seen him since that screening we went to that Friday night at SXSW 2006 at the Austin Convention Center. Been trying to remember who directed that one. Maybe Larry will remember.

Well, gotta run. More as soon as possible.

Click on the Belgium section and do a search on Castle and Theft with yesterday's date. It looks like he's not wasting any time. He's principle on this and team was contract, so he will keep most of the take. That will set him up for at least the rest of the London phase. So you can stop worrying about the budget.

On a separate topic, we found a gallery for his legit work. We're just going to buy it outright and that'll be easier all-around. The current owner's pretty desperate so the deal will be closed within two weeks. We'll throw a big 'new management' event in March. Feature some of his collages. Plus, we've still got that critic from the Telegraph on the book. So between him and a couple of high-profile purchases that I'm setting up, he should be doing pretty well by summer. Can you believe that I ran into some people from work who said that they are also looking to meet up with Larry. Well, I guess he always was a popular guy in certain circles. I hope that I meet up with him first, though, because I just want to talk about old times. I think they want to talk about business. Maybe even talk to him about coming back to the office.

They also mentioned that Larry looks really different. I hope I can recognize him down in St. Kits after all this time. I'd hate to go up to the wrong person and make a fool out of myself. We'll see. I'm sure I'll be able to spot him, he's probably still wearing that stupid hat he wore all over Austin.

The St. Kits expo has been uneventful over the past several days, which is probably for the best. No sign of Larry, though. No one that I've run into has heard a thing from him.

Was watching VH-1 in my hotel room this morning - a show on one hit wonders from the 80's - and who should pop up but Spandau Ballet. What memories they brought back! They were on the countdown at Number 6 with "True". That one was OK, but there were other songs from that album that were much better.

I've been thinking of having a more full-featured space on the web, something a little more robust that would support an online newsletter or newspaper. But I don't have any money to spend on that sort of thing. I wonder if my friends up in Allentown know of anything like that that's free?

Back to the beach, for now.

St. Kits has been great. Hasn't been too hot. Everything is nice and calm. Unfortunately, I'm sure that can't last. Been getting a little new work done, too. Hopefully I'll get several more days down here before I have to move on.

It's always nice to meet new friends, and it appears that I've met a couple nice people down here. Lots of treasure hunters, too. Makes me think of The Gold Bug. I get the impression that some of them are close to finding something.

Anyway, I think I'll finish up here at the computer in a little while, then I think I'll just sit by the window for a few minutes. The moon looks beautiful over the water at about 10:40. Maybe I'll spot those treasure hunters heading down the beach.

I heard my old college buddies Charlie Ryder and Sebastian Flyte are revisiting some research we worked on a while ago. I'm going to visit them at their place. Specifically, at their library; thing com pletely renovated and restocked so I'm sure we'll be able to get some good work done.

If anyone who was familiar with our work wants to help out, they can just stop by their library and search for my friends and/or their fathers. Someone will be be able to show you where we are.

Jeff is dead.

I checked a couple things after we talked. He died in a car accident on the night on June 29th. The accident report says that he ran head-on into a metal street light at high speed. He was on his way home from a club where was was seen by many people to have been drinking heavily. He didn't have any family.

If you get anything from him it is almost certainly from Green or his people.

I've got to go. I'll be in touch when I can, or if I find anything else.

The box and its contents have been sent to NM along with AP's body.

A bit of news, then. Yesterday I received a new (very old) manuscript from one of my dear friends (I'm sure she would prefer to be anonymous). Some of you know that I am a collector of what I tend to think of a "proto-fanfiction"; works, most of them never published, by (unknown) contemporaries of some of my favorite authors. These personal homages were, of course, penned well in advance of the Internets and desktop printing so one has to wonder "why" the author(s) even bothered. Must have been love of the material.

This new piece is by an unnamed gentleman from Portsmouth, and it is obviously his take on our friend HPL.

He writes of a great, unseen force looming beyond the horizon; but approaching rapidly. He says that this force can see deep into the darkest corners of the secret world, that it knows all the dealings of kings and princes, and that it is invisible to even the most wise and canny mages. He writes that the creature was called into being with an oath and that it evolved, taking on a completely new countenance.

It is hard to tell if his writing is symbolic or purely fanciful; but I can tell you from first-hand experience that he writes with an uncommon authority. It's obvious that his imagery was based on a skewed understanding of the world, but I am astounded at how rich, and close to the source, he got.

He describes the beast as being made up of its own mirror image; millions of copies in one, great whole - and here is where I think his vision starts to get blurry. I don't think there is a beast of that shape. I think maybe he looked too long into the abyss and started seeing ghostly copies of himself. His true assessment of the monster is scary enough without making it into a Menger sponge, connected to every other monster in the universe.

I'm still digesting the rest of the manuscript. I am unfamiliar with the change in cosmic law he hints at, although this would fit well into the HPL worldview. And I can't tell if his passing reference to another member of this dark pantheon is meant to show that the Great Ones are somehow related or simply to hint at an an entirely different menace.

Regardless, it is clear from the postscript that he knew he would have some followers (although how he could have known he would have a fan this far in the future is beyond me Very Happy

).

I'm sure some of my comrades have read the manuscript (it's untitled, so let's just call it Portsmouth#1) and I am REALLY interested in hearing your take on it. As I said, I don't get out much and sometime worldly experience can add to the interpretation of literary work. I think it's best if you post your thoughts here in the group - I don't have the opportunity to check my other mail very often. Just be careful, you don't want to come right out and say C'th...whew, that was close Wink

I have not received any additional data on CT2, beyond T's current post. If I get any intel through channels not available to you I will get that to you immediately. T is aware of the potential risk of any unknown in this equation, and he is doubly aware of the exposure related to TY. I am fairly confident that he can control TY for at least another day or two on the pretext that a 'tabloid' will provide a much larger payout that the 'LA Times', but that he will lose everything if he talks to anyone else.
Regarding comms. One of our tech people feels that they have a strong security hack for a web-based collaboration service. This hack would exponentially increase the security of this service. Initial tests are very positive, but we would like to do more intensive testing for another day or so. Do your people have clean e-mail addresses that can be used to invite them to this service? I would consider any e-mail address received by you or your associate to be secure. If the hack works out, we will invite, via e-mail, the people that you have vetted to join this community. The invitation will include an identifier that you will have prep'ed them to receive. I am unaware of any restriction to the size of a community on this service, but there may be one. I would think it can easily handle up to 20 people, if necessary. If this protocol is acceptable, you may begin providing the addresses. The alternative is to try to take CT1 and talk to him directly. Would be very difficult without a full team, but not impossible under the right conditions (he goes out of town on his own sometimes). If he really is a stay behind from the production that left town he could probably answer many questions.

Looking for your direction on this one. The items would be easier but there is no telling what (or even if) he has written much down, or if we could get to it. Either way, I think we need to move soon. I'd be surprised if CT1 stays here much longer. T

The paper it is written on is being overtaken by a moss-coloured mould. I feel it is important that I keep the clean portions of the manuscript very clean. So any thoughts on that would be appreciated as well.

Please contact me if you have any insight into this poem. It's been a long time since I've spoken to anyone about this stuff, and it would be great to meet up with some like-minded bibliophiles. Ta.

I read a story once about a man who had a moment of clarity whilst sitting in a tree talking to a peacock.
Strange, but true (the fact that I read it, not the story itself). No peacocks involved, but I have had a little epiphany myself. My epiphany has to do with fear. The fear that someone will be able to find me because some good people, whom he MAY know, keep showing up at my house wearing distinctive hats. Well, I've decided that I have to stop being afraid. I have faith in my own skill and in the technology that I have access to and if he is good enough to get past that (the technology, obviously not my skill), then there really isn't anything I can do about it. Not that I'm turning fatalistic, far from it. I'll still observe my SOPs (and some new ones). But I can't keep running like I have been. I was looking for help when this all started, and my need for help got a couple people hurt. So it can't be about help any more; I can't pull any more people into this and risk them getting hurt as well. I think it just has to be about information. If some people see it and can use it, maybe learn something from it, so much the better. If no one ever sees it...well, I did what I could. I'm just me, and the organization I'm dealing with is VERY BIG. I'm sure you've heard of them. They're supposed to be protecting us, but I have reason to believe that they are running a project that has already stepped way over the line. A team from the main office came down to our branch about 10 days ago. They were checking into a shrinkage problem we've been having throughout the chain. Thought about that damn code all day today. Mutual friend had mentioned some of the things she had tried, so I tried a different angle. I figured that the fact he used a monospace font means that the alignment of the letters is important. Since I know he was a math buff (FRACTAL, right) I got the idea that maybe the key was directions on a number line; i.e. back 2, forward 5 that idea produced ANE GCA NDO OI (or, if the groupings don't mean anything: ANEGCANDOOI). Then I thought that the key might be movement along a standard x-y grid that idea produced TAL HOR HOE AE (or TALHORHOEAE). Then I thought about how he liked to convolute things and supposed that he might rotate the grid 90 degrees clockwise that one produced REU YOD SIE UT (REUYODSIEUT). Then I figured why not try another 90 degrees, effectively flipping the x-y by 180 degrees off the original that gave me UNE END IOE DE (UNEENDIOEDE). Then I started thinking what if he was really paranoid and wanted to throw an ugly curve (assuming he thought the recipient would get it) and so I thought maybe the first figure is jumps on a number line and the 2nd is jumps up the alphabet, i.e. two back from the first D is N then five up the alphabet from N is S. This one produced SJS LWX LVO ZT (or SJSLWXLVOZT). Then I wondered about the same thing but with the 1st number in the key meaning to up or down that number of rows with negative being up that gave me SYK SYK AHV IO (or SYKSYKAHVIO). Then I did the same thing but with negative meaning down that number of rows and positive being up that resulted in PYS EOR DYK IO (or PYSEORDYKIO) and at that point my head hurt so bad that I gave up. I have no idea if any of these makes sense. Could be anagrams, could be in another language, who knows. A couple of the patterns look suspicious. Ooops, got to go. August 09, 2007

Looking back at the letter itself, I get the feeling that at least part of what he is trying to convey may be in a different language. Probably in the language of the country he mentions visiting. I wish I had some idea of what country that might be. I know he liked learning new languages (at SXSW he was trying hard to get into Polish), using all the Polish nouns he knew. The person he sent the letter to must have had some idea of what he was getting at. It's just too potentially random otherwise. I have still been getting occasional files, but the recent ones have had nothing to do with the previous ones (which were all about the same thing). I have no idea why this is, but there is nothing I can do about it either. (that probably sounds strange, but it is just a function of how that system appears to do its thing. Every once in awhile I get the chance to knock off early on a Friday and take some of my federally mandated vacation time (of course, I still have to...no, I had better not write that - even with things being quieter recently, I still need to follow my own protocols). I see that there has been a lot of feedback since I was able to stop by here last time. (I'll not bother to advise caution about your own IDs. I must assume that you have covered your own tracks adequately, or that you don't care if they know who you are. I respect that, even if I find it somewhat crazy. Regarding the other files that I've been getting lately, I can't provide them as they contain sensitive data about apparently normal citizens. Things like financial records, medical profiles, IDs and passwords to systems. Things like that. Appears to be random and I haven't seen anything that links it to the big project. Anyway, I stopped in here on the way out of state because something sz said reminded me of something. Like many conspiriologists, AP had a pronounced superstitious streak; namely, he had a thing for good luck charms. I found this out at SXSW one night because he kept taking stuff out of his pocket and messing around with it on the table, then putting it back in his pocket. After awhile it got pretty annoying so I asked him what he was doing and he said it was just a nervous habit, worrying his good luck tokens. I didn't say much more about it because I figure a man's nervous habits are his own business, but I remember that at least one of these charms was a coin with a hole in it and one was a little stone (definitely NOT a ruby, unless mean anything, but you mentioned a card (no ideas what that is about) and some personal items, so that's probably what they were. As to sz's theory; if I understand it he is wondering if I am Julian Thalberg. No I am not. But as I was thinking about whether to write down that name in just a public space it occurred to me that maybe the best way to monkey-wrench this whole thing is to go as public as possible with key bits of info like that. If they are truly trying to use him for a deep cover op of some type, and they have set him up to look like he was DD from the Army, and they are using his real name (or at least the name he's used for a long time, then blowing his cover, might slow down the project. (Or, more realistically, might ruin HIS effectiveness in it. I'm almost certain there are if nothing else, it'll at least feel like some sore of closure to say it in the clear. Julian Thalberg, former major - Army, is working for the OIS. He is on a project called OSPREY that is run by OIS ADDOPS Claudia Reece. The nature of OSPREY is unknown, but there is strong evidence that it deals with establishing a Big Brother-like surveillance network to be used against the American public. There. I guess we'll know pretty soon if they were already aware of this account. Got to go. Oops, just realized that someone was on here advising against that. Personally I think there was already more than enough on the open web to shut them down, if they were inclined to do so. And I think the lack of any OSPREY files in the recent past means that they have changed their own internal protocols sufficiently to foil the system that I was using to get them. If you wee to do a search right now, I know (because I've done it) that you would find at least 10 secret projects or conspiracies etc. at least as well-documented as this one, that absolutely on one has ever done anything worthwhile to try to shut down. It's the nature of our world, and of how the majority of our people choose to live in it, and it is why THEY will always win. I've been a fool from the very first, to think that I, or AP, or anyone else could do anything about this. Because we all know (if we are honest with ourselves) that Claudia Reece could go on Oprah this afternoon and tell the whole freaking world what they plan to do and the whole freaking' world would not only agree to it, they would go buy the book. So I say drive them further underground. Hack their systems. Make them work harder for it. My goal has been to stop them. but I've learned enough to know that that is, in the most literal way, impossible. So if they can't be shut down I think the only way to approach it is to limit the effectiveness of what they are trying to do.

I was just sitting here sipping a little rooibos when it occurred to me that someone had said something about seeing AP's personal effects. So, I went back and looked and surf zoned said "the deceased's items". I'm not going to ask how you know what those items are, but is there some way someone can get me a list of them? Seeing all his stuff just gave me a terrible jolt. It was like the feeling you have when you wake up from a very vivid nightmare. Seeing these things that I had seen before, like the coins and the stone (same one); the reality of what has happened hit me hard. I'm going to have to come back to this a little later, it's just a little too much right now. But I'd be willing to put money on him using from this box as a password. September 29, 2007

No, I wasn't terribly close to AP. Was in pretty close quarters for a short time and then traded notes occasionally. I think the bigger impact comes from the knowledge that if it wasn't for me, and my trying to contact him about all this BS, he would almost certainly still be around. That's a big load to carry. I guess I was able to keep the reality of that at a distance until I saw all his stuff in that picture. But that's my problem to deal with. I'm still thinking about the stuff (there's a lot of weird stuff in that box; i.e. why the heck would he have a Special Forces insignia (that's what that is, right?), but the one thing that came back to me after seeing these things had to do with that girl I mentioned some time ago; Karianne. She was a past girlfriend of AP's and apparently he always felt like he really screwed up with her. Anyway, I guess that they were both big into gaming back whenever that was, because I remembered him being drunk and going on about her and how they would spend all their time gaming. He said he always played some sort of magician and she never played anything but an elf; and that she was an archer. I'll let you know if anything else jogs a memory. October 01, 2007

Can I get Steven to talk to me again? Strongly doubt, last time didn't go very well and now he's moved or isn't returning my calls.

What if the face is not just looking at fed dbs. Sure they may just be privateers, but do we want them to be hijacking people's personal life savings? Found something while going through the manuscript the other night that I had had never really noticed before. "Tall Guy" in Oregon mentioned a draft executive order to review conditions of martial law. No citation, though. Sounds like old school NWO stuff, but he also mentioned 'Exigent Tribunal' - never heard of that one before.

Need to ask the guy in the Airstream to turn down the music after 10:00 pm.

I really need to talk to Germain, but why do all these ultra-libertarians have to be so intense. He makes me far too nervous. Can't prove that he's ever taken anyone out, but it's one of those things that wouldn't surprise me at all.

Sometimes you just get that feeling. I wonder if I've covered my tracks well enough.
