This is wrong (I think) as far as I know, only about 19,000 Americans were wounded, killed or captured.
Compare this to the 100,000 German's who were killed, wounded or captured...

A few more for you:
invasion of this country caused sanctions to be invoked against italy (modern name) - Ethiopia, 1936
second nation to be conquered by italy - Albania, 1939
german fortification parallel to the maginot line - Westwall, AKA the Western Rampart
And one correction:
country where the largest mass surrender of american troops ever occurred - Phillipines (Bataan)
Belgium (The Battle of the Bulge) was the largest surrender in the European Theatre.

I think the number is supposed to be of american troops specifically

I got this:
Quote:
The Americans had only a few divisions, including the 106th division, in the Ardennes guarding a fifty-mile front. The area was used to rest and refit divisions coming off the line, or to organize new units. The Germans poured fourteen infantry divisions and five Panzer divisions into this front, smashing the new 106th division out of existence. 7,500 men surrendered in the largest mass surrender in United States history .
from here: http://www.worldwar2database.com/html/ardennes.htm
Is this the same as the Battle of the Bulge mentioned before, and if so, apparently not true? (Sorry if this is a rather stupid question, but I don't recognize a lot of names of these battles because apparently they are completely different in Dutch... and besides, my last history class was aaaages ago (*cough*)

It is also known as the Siegfried line, just in case that would be more fitting

Maybe because the campaign (The Ardennes Offensive) was in the Ardennes forests of Belgium and Luxembourg ...maybe it's Luxembourg?
Quote:
December 1944 witnessed the last German offensive of the Second World War. The Battle for the Bulge, as this campaign in the Ardennes forests of Belgium and Luxembourg is now more familiarly known, was the biggest single pitched battle of the Western Front – more than a million troops took part. It was Hitler's most desperate gamble of the war; he in fact planned its every move.
It was the climax, too, of the allied invasion of Western Europe. But it was also a time of American humiliation, for it was the largest mass surrender of US forces of the whole European War – and a surrender second in size only to that at Bataan in the Pacific in 1942.

Again pointing to the possib of Luxembourg?
Quote:
While Stafford and Stephens recuperated, 30 German divisions roared across an 85-mile Allied front from southern Belgium to the middle of Luxembourg on December 16, 1944. By Christmas, the German offensive had opened a bulge 50 miles into the Allied lines, forcing the biggest mass surrender of American soldiers since Bataan (note of interest: my father-in-law is a survivor of the Bataan Death March), some 4000 men in a single day.
