[SPEC] Cass Scenic Railroad
vitrual tour

If we are going to Cass W.Va and riding the train there, I found the virtual ride. I didn't see this posted here before. It looks beautiful, even though the video is from the summer it gives a good idea of the countryside.

It takes IE or windows media plugin for FF to run.

The whole place looks lovely from the website, but I imagine its going to be very creepy at night!
Is the field trip today?

No, next weekend.

There is also this train

http://www.mountainrail.com/

I called the Cass Railroad (the one I posted above) There are absolutely no cell phones that work except for possibly on Snowshoe Mountain. There is one payphone by the General Store in town.

I'm not feeling too good about this lack of communication. After going through September 11th and the blackout and not being able to get in touch with people, I'm starting to get uncomfortable about the whole idea. I can't bring my son with me as he as SAT test prep to do on the weekend.

I'm sure I'll get over this.

Anyway here is the data about the restaurant/general store:

Last Run Restaurant Mike Cooke
Rt 66 (Country Store)
Cass WV 24927 (304) 456-3113 Restaurant

They are open from 8:00 to 5:00 according to the person I spoke to, so maybe this isn't our spot? I thought the email said 5:30.

They do sell things like milk and eggs so we can get some food there if we need to...and if it is the right place. Smile

I wonder if we can grill outside? I never get to do that seeing as I live in Manhattan and my building won't allow grills on the balcony.

Here is a CNN story: on the cass railroad

Kumbrabow State Forest and Seneca State Forest have 'pioneer' cabins -- Cass Scenic Railroad offers 'cottages'. From the State Park website, the cottage description states they have "upgraded amenities and contemporary design" (e.g., bathrooms).

Because of the fire ban that went into effect on Friday, October 19, 2007, one may only grill using a gas or propane stove, or one with a heat source that can be controlled and shut off.
