I think its necessary we keep bumping this thread so newbies see it, at least for a while. All in all a good idea jo jo! Very Happy

Man I loved that show. And therefore I really really wish no one dares to do a live action movie based on it.

I can appreciate what you are trying to say. But to be blunt, this is an "audience participation" game. What is the fun of running off to Wiki for all the answers? No one wants to do that, and forcing them to do it destroys the spirit of the whole thing. Part of the fun is asking questions and giving answers. If someone asks a question that's been asked before and you don't feel like answering again, let someone else do it. I for one LOVE helping new people, instead of making them feel unwelcome by shipping them off to some lonely site. People tried to do that to me when I started to play Guild Wars. Any time I tried to interact with others by asking a question, they would always direct me to the Guild Wiki instead of PARTICIPATING and helping with an answer. If you put everything in the WIki and send everyone there for answers, what then is there left to talk about? I seriously think we need to re-evaluate this issue because a wiki is there as a resource, not the be all and end all of the game, and should NEVER be used to negate ANY form of participation.

That's Deborah!

And we do have a thread that's stuck on the first page for questions and answers, where the rule is that there's no dumb question. This is different. This is people posting 'discoveries' before bothering to read their same discovery being an old discussion that's sitting right there on the first page. If you want to be part of this, you should take a little time to find out about what is this.

Now I can't take the ninja rap out of my head. It happens every time someone mentions those movies.

This is because people don't want to waste their time discussing things that have already been hashed to death, particularly when there are new and exciting developments that they would rather spend their time on. Regardless of what you want it to be, this site is primarily focused on discussing the new and exciting developments, not old, stale ones.

The wiki is not a substitute for participation, it's there to supplement participation so that people who have not been around from the beginning can quickly and concisely learn what has/hasn't been discussed and then make a meaningful (read: new and interesting) contribution to the discussion on the forum.

If you are being directed there or to another site, it is because people have already talked about this topic and you are unfortunately late to the discussion. Do you walk up to people 4 weeks after a pro football game and start talking to them about a specific, minor play that happened the 2nd quarter? Would you expect to receive a positive, interested response in that situation, even though 3 other games have been played in the meantime? Imagine trying to walk up random strangers and talk to them about that - that's analagous to what people are doing on this board when they come in and post about old topic that's already been beaten to death. Yes, you may be excited about it (just like the football game example) but unfortunately most people aren't, and are going to respond accordingly.

Referring those people to a website or the old forum link is the polite way of saying "we've already talked about this and aren't interested in talking about it further at this time. Please go back and read this and come back when you have something interesting to contribute".

Posting new and interesting info on this site is what will earn you positive social interaction and pats on the back, if that's what you're looking for. Posting old info and getting angry when people don't support your "new" theory will generally get you the opposite. I hope people will consider this as they plan their future posts.

As Kraker said, feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss this further.

I know this is flying in the face of what you just said, but head over to Guild Wars Online and have a poke about there. It's a great social community where you can get assistance, join guilds, buy and sell items, keep up to date with updates and generally have a better time in the game. By going there you'll make new friends ingame.

Maybe see you there Smile

At this point, I think it might be worth trotting out a reminder of the unfiction Terms Of Service
I'll quote a bit here, note the emphasis is in the original, not added by me.

For new people coming in, the "old, stale stuff" is still new and fresh, and even if it has been discussed already, they would still like to weigh in, because that's what people are coming here for...

The whole problem with 1-18-08 (because it really is a problem with this "game" specifically, look around on the other subforums) is that there just are just hardly any "new developments" to focus on, so the old stuff keeps getting dug up and with every day going by, the specualtion gets wilder and wilder. And because there's hardly any new stuff happening, it doesn't really matter if you discuss and specualte on old stuff or new stuff... it's all the same.

This whole viral campaign around this movie has been designed to create rumour. In that, they have succeeded, but it cannot be "played" like a game or an ARG or whatever, because there's hardly anything to actually do and hardly any progress to actually follow or discuss. All there is is these little bits we are being spoonfed and which are then discussed to death...

If there actually was any real progress, it would make sense to point new people at reference guides or wikis for the information they needed to get up to speed so they can participate in furthering the game... now, there's just no use.

I agree. There's no need for all the childish, hostile behavior. However, it seem to me that the people who are braking "the rules" are also the most hostile, vulgar, etc.

Then they should "weigh in" in existing threads, NOT create their own, just because they want to see their name on the front page.

For the record, I NEVER condoned breaking rules EVER.

What I said is that everyone is jumping ridiculously overboard with some of it. We are here to have fun. Don't put a straight jacket on everyone. If someone posts a thread about something that's already been mentioned and someone else has to freak out over it (freak out = draw attention to it), there are therapy classes for that sort of thing. If someone just HAS to make a stink and feels it their personal moral obligation to correct someone for infringement of the holy rules, have some respect and send them a private message WHETHER OR NOT YOU THINK THEY WERE BEING DISRESPECTFUL. It is generally a given that people are not trying to intentionally break rules. Further more, correcting other users for rules violations is the duty of the moderator not the users. Pick your battles wisely and learn when and when not to make an issue of something. The final point: just chill the heck out. No one is being hurt here, no one is affecting your paycheck.

Alright, fine, I'll bite. I'm going to argue what you wrote.

1. We are here to have fun, but if you want to have fun, it doesn't help with having to deal with people who cannot bother themselves to briefly skim thread titles to see if what they are about to post is already posted. Plus, there are so many it can get overwhelming.

2. I will try to PM someone in the future, but often they do not check their PM box. I have tried and often they do not respond unless you respond on their thread.

3. As for correcting players, it is up to the community to decide that. In a game with no strict rules enforced by the moderators as to topic creating (meaning no locking, no hiding policy), it is up to the players whom there are many more than moderators to be able to offer advice to newcomers.
