I don't know, but Hud doesn't sound, well, literate enough to write like that. Rob's the brains of the group, it seems, and that's not saying much.

Vernon's intelligent in an oddball sort of way.

If vernon is positevly an alias, I am almost sure that we will find a solid clue when it comes out. As far as now, it's speculating time..

Be certain of the lead insurance...

A percentage of the Doobster's peculiarity can, no doubt, be chalked up
to an insurance policy of sorts…increasing his oddity and knack for
offbeat analogies, etc. (ie. Buckleshire vs. Sherwood Forest, acorns on Magnolia trees )
completely increased his chances of sticking out as a curious lead (at least it did for me) .

The impeccable moustache and the infatuation with toes does linger as
overly indulgent Mel

impeccable mustache

"my impeccable mustache" shows up in a book called "Sentenced to die"

it shows up in a lot of books. I checked. It's a strangely common locution. Go figure.

I hate to say it but "Vernon Macdooble" and/or "impeccable mustache" seem like ideal candidates for... *gulp*... anagrams.

hey this is so far off topic its not funny but this was the highest thread so guess you're gonna cop it.

Us Australians get to see the film one full (calender) day before you americans! Sucked in! We get it on our 17th January! Very Happy

**I am aware that the films will be probably shown at the same time in both places due to time differences, but meh, we still get to see it on the 17th, and you get to see it on the 18th!**

also sucks for people from france and the netherlands; they have to wait until the 2nd and 7th of feb, respectively Sad

This is awesome news (I'm in Oz) and was worried that if we got the movie after it's US premiere (like generally happens) that I would need to steer clear of this board so as to not have the movie spoiled for me and as a result I would miss out on all the post-movie told-you-so's and WTF's and discussions.

Excellent news! Cool

Oh, to live in Puerto Rico or Australia...

"You lucky, lucky bastard."
- Ben, the old-man prisoner, Life of Brian

Well, once you've seen it, just keep quiet about it until we've all had a chance to see it, eh? Or, rather: anyone NOT in PR or Australia, don't check the forums the day before the movie comes out! Wink

The only place I've ever seen the 1-17-08 date listed is on IMDB, which like Wikipedia can be edited by basically anyone. Unlike Wikipedia it does not seem to have legions of people trying to corroborate every detail and taking out the misinformation and even minor vandalisms. Unless someone can find some official corroboration, I think this is bogus. I base this on more than simple subjective opinion...

If someone was trying to be clever about how the clock and calendar work, they might mix up the fact that Australia sees a new day before the US and much of the rest of the world. This however makes them nearly one calendar day beyond us, as in 1-18-08 in the US will begin as it is nearly ending in Australia. Trying to say it's the 17th is going the wrong way on the calendar.

Movie releases usually roughly follow a pattern set by the DVD region coding. Australia is Region 4, so it'd be more likely they'd get the movie at the same time as other countries in the same region. At the earliest Australia would see release on 1-18-08 4 hours ahead of the US, or maybe on the same release date as Europe.

For you Australians, think back to when you've previously seen movies released and what it was relative to the US release date. I can't imagine this movie making a premiere anywhere but NYC.

Actually, movies in Australia always start on a Thursday which 17 Jan 08 is. The Simpsons movie played first in OZ, not sure if was the start of the same day it aired in US or earlier but we always get the first look at any globally premiered movies.

I know what you're saying about IMDB but the 17th does tie in with usual Oz movie release dates. Hopefully we'll find out for sure in the near future but I'm keeping everything crossed for now that this date is correct.

Edit: Just checked The Simpsons movie on Wikipedia and it premiered in OZ on July 26 (a Thursday) and July 27 in US (it says it opened in UK on 26 July as well but it was originally slated for 27 July but was brought forward for some reason) so it does happen we get big releases a day or more before US and rest of the world.

The release dates given on IMDB indicate the movie not to have a single global premiere, and more than one site says that the UK is getting it's first look at the beginning of February. That'd kind of break the idea that the movie will be globally premiered.

Checking on The Simpson's Movie, the premiere showing was on July 21st in Springfield, VT, USA. They had won a competition to be the Springfield in which the premiere would be aired. Other countries followed by their normal release days, from the 25th through the 27th then after a few days in most other nations around the world. I think that's a good example of how a global premiere might look, but with the strong ties of the footage itself being shot (with timestamps) in the early hours of 1-18-08, I would expect it to be premiered in NYC and at a time that should fall after the events of the movie...

Unless JJ wants to make the premiere a really impressive event and put that initial audience basically IN the events of the movie as they unfold.

I just wish we had an official list of release dates to go by.
