Well, then maybe that's what they intended, but I had an ME prof. who would beat the PM senseless for confusing scalars and vectors.

heh maybe it's a combo of the two? *shrug* but it's definitely Joule in there somehow if not the answer itself

and I didn't mean "1/e", I'm just using / to separate the 1 from the clue/answer... so just e, not 1/e

Nice. I had no clue on that one. On newgrounds, it says "Job : a". Maybe we're suposed to assume that its "a"?

Well, uh... The third picture in the first row:

First: the greek symbol is Sigma (English equivalent: S), not Epsilon (English equivalent: E). Reference: http://www.keyway.ca/gif/greek2.gif

The other thing is that the equation asks for the infinite sum of a geometric sequence. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometric_series#Representation_using_sigma_notation

I'm pretty sure the answer is undefined (DNE), but I can't be certain because I can't remember how the factorial (!) applies to an infinite geometric sequence.

Anyways, the long and the short of it is that I don't think that the correct letter for that box is E; I think it is either S or something else.

Edit: Never mind this; see below. E was correct. I need to pay more attention in Calc. XD

I'd go for E though:

[Fixed broken link, because it confused me. XD ~Rekidk]

This is a pic of Marco Polo... Kender posed the idea that the pic on the bottom right might be him. the nose and inset eyes could be a match, what do you think?

EDIT: Too narrow of a face?

D'oh! You're right; clearly, I didn't read the Wikipedia article on page 13 of this thread.

Thanks for correcting me! Smile

sMooTH WuN, marco polo wasnt around when photos were available, and that to me looks like a photo!. Going back to a previous post, however, it could be Venn...
Which would fit into the V theme...

Chippy you may just be right about Venn... the Venn diagram shows whats in common between three things, and what is not in common. Here:

Nice Job Bruce! Like I said... our newly appointed Mandarin Character Go-to Guy!

EDIT: In the bottom left pic, is it me or is he wearing some sort of medal/necklace around his neck?

EDIT: Nm, it looks like a tank top

I have to document this solve as it was too fun... and note: chippy gets two parts credit here too Wink

To clarify on Kelvin, after much digging I first managed to find
Quote:
the second chinese character:
(unicode 5EA6) based on the radical yǎn (or guǎng, meaning wide/numerous/to spread)

from there, finding a base character for the 1st wasn't easy... but I came to
Quote:
líng (unicode 96F6) based on the radical (rain) - thanks to chippy who found a similar character 96FB sharing a component, then suddenly líng popped out Razz

So with the combined definitions of
ling (zero; fragment, fraction) and du (capacity; degree; standard)
chippy suggested "kelvin?"
A quick google verified the picture. Thus in this case, ling du = "absolute zero"

in the chinese dictionary, absolute zero is listed in full, apparently as "jué duì líng "

yay teamwork!

of course, the answer would have been known had any of us recognized Kelvin from science class Razz Not a huge solve, but fun, looking through chinese character dictionaries for translations, estimating strokes, radicals, compound words and phrases... sheesh
