[SPEC] Why isn't the monster ever heard moving?
(In the trailer, that is)

Going back through the trailer recently, there may have been something so obvious that we missed it. During the entire trailer, the only time you hear the monster move is during the earthquake! And I really don't think we'll be seeing a supermassive, explosion-causing, statue-head-throwing creature quietly tip-toeing through NY in the movie Razz .

So what's the explanation? I've thought of a few possibilities:

1. The monster doesn't actually move after the earthquake
2. The monster was in a place where any action wouldn't make much noise (the ocean, perhaps?)
3. It doesn't need to touch the ground
4. It can move without making noise
5. The 'roar' is actually the sound of the monster moving

But I'm sure there's a better way to explain this.

So what do you guys think?

could be a steathly monster relying on his agility to climb buildings making hardly any sound (reference to the claw marks on the buildings on the poster)

the monster indeed could be still in the water when the explosion happens. The earthquake could be the impact it had with the SOL and its head being ripped off. Enough force could cause a tremor.

Maybe the sound is hardly audiable through the screams because it is far away, or it is a small monster which hardly makes any sound.

I don't think it's been close enough yet to directly hear it move.
I think the rumbles and shakes we have seen are the result of it's destructive power alone. We've heard the other thing we know it can do loudly - roar.
Most animals that can roar do so to be scary to those close, and be heard far away.

Grumpypants was swimming

I dont make sounds when i swim, unless im drowning, maybe that is why he screams, grumpypants got a cramp from eating too many hotdogs and slusho..in all honesty in the preview, i still dont think he has reached land yet, grumpypants is still doing laps around the SOL headless body, we know he swims up to lower manhattan, given the movie poster wake in the water

could grumpypants be dancing up broadway?

I'm sure you'd make sound though if you were swimming laps in one of those 4x4 plastic pools... that's about to scale i think of the monster swimming around new york

With the explosion and noise, you would not hear movement. Quiet room you can hear someone walking, try the same when noise in the room.

Maybe that land-explosion is a fuel tanker he found out on the water; he just gave it a playful toss into the middle of the city -- he hasn't quite reached land.

Since Liberty's head was tossed after the explosion and roar either 1) monstie is still out near liberty island or 2) he carried her head with him and then flung it after he reached land.

[edit] OR there is more than one monstie.

Heres a good reason.

1) They were all in a party with loud music, so the TV was not on during the party im presuming, they probably turned that on to see what was happening after the earthquake, therefore they would know the latest news. Also they are miles away from the explosion and they have been in a party with loud music, might not be able to hear the monster walking.

2) I personally dont think that the monster had even moved from the water. I think it had stood up and hurled things into land... but i dunno

i'm going to guess because the trailer is only like what a minute and a half long?

so maybe it just dosn't move that much or fast in that amount of time...

Great Balls of Fire!
Weird activity of fireballs.

Something that has always plagued my sleepless Cloverfield nights are the fireballs. They are weird. Watch as they morph almost at the same time. What they morph into I do not know. But they definetly have an intelligence as they are arcing over Rob's building.

Gee-Zus, I have lost my mind.

I'm not so sure the fireballs are intelligent... it looks to me like they are following a natural trajectory coming from that huge explosion.

It must have wheels! The "Roar" must be the monster revving its engine. Surprised Transformers 2 anyone?

The party music and the explosions from the fireballs don't adequately explain the lack of noise from a moving kaiju (giant monstaaaah).

For 1) the music at the party isn't loud anyway. (That is really one of the lamest parties I've ever seen in retrospect -- even the bartender looks bored as hell, and some of the partygoers look like they wish they were somewhere else doing something *fun.*)
And 2) We all know that when Godzilla or King Kong or whoever strolls through Manhattan, the ground shakes and the camera shakes and the chicks with big boobs -- er, never mind. Point is, there's no "monster stomp" that you'd expect to see if a gigantic monster was trampling around out there.
Plus, 3) The street is strangely quiet and serene after everybody piles out onto Broadway. There's no fires, no damaged buildings, no rubble, no screaming injured -- nothing. Just a bunch of puzzled people standing around out on the street.

So yeah, if it's huge, and it's physical, and it walks -- there should be noise, and groundshake and camerashake and all that good jive.

And if Rob's apartment just got hit by an artillery barrage that looks like it's capable of wiping out the whole building -- there should damn well be evidence of that down below on the street where everyone congregates.
