My guess? He's a guy who really wants to be a PM in an ARG. That's why he posted his "second confession" a few months ago, aluding to some character that wasn't another forum goon, but some spooooooky guy who was making the videos and lurking in the shadows. He also managed to come up with an explanation that totally exonerated himself personally from everything that had happened ("Someone used my account!" is second only to "The cat ran across the keyboard!" in explaining these things, isn't it?)

That was his attempt to clean up his reputation prior to launching the Red King. But he lacks the wherewithal to actually follow one through to its conclusion, so it winds up languishing like these both have.

Bambos has actually stated that the first version of WI was never intended to go very far, and they were only stringing players along for pranking purposes.

I'm not sure whether he's intentionally messing with people so much as losing interest, though. (I have no idea what happened with WI after the first pranking; there were some goons talking about seeing if they could take it over again and duplicate the prank with new people, but I stopped paying attention.)

Has it even been established that Bambos is the PM for this one? (Or that he was for WI 2.0?)

Either way, it was a pretty cool read, and ended at a decentish spot, so I can't complain too badly.

This is what Senor wrote over at Happy Cube after theembodiment left (WI 2.0)

Alright, time to come clean.

Many of you may remember me as the guy who claimed to have made the video on SomethingAwful. I was lying, though I was the one who first posted links to it and uploaded it online. That was pretty much my entire purpose: distribution.

I had posted on another forum that I wished I could become involved in some sort of viral marketing/ARG/hoax. A new member PMed me asking me if I would like to take some videos he made and upload them around the web and link to them. I asked him why he didn't do it himself, and he told me that he wouldn't know where to start.

He sent the videos to me via email and explained how he made them. I think he lied because I have attempted to replicate the videos and have only produced mediocre lookalikes. The only thing that worked were the audio tips he gave. The videos stopped appearing simply because he ceased to make them. I think only he knows how to properly produce these things.

He gave me the basic video descriptions. I figured it'd be best to display them to SomethingAwful, the largest website I was active on at the time, and it snowballed. When this message board was opened, he gave me the position of moderator and asked if I could oversee the boards when he was unable to.

A jackass friend of mine (The Detector) logged into my account one night and basically did everything that almost ended the "game". Embarrassed but amused by the excitement going on at SA, I tried to play it off as a joke reveal. This attempt to play it off was thwarted when the real PM tried the detective thing and then restarted the game.

The spiteful post he made about me some time later was probably meant to discredit me for almost ruining the game and I suppose I deserved it.

I thought I could trust my friend as he had acted as a plant several times during the game. The PM always decided when a plant would be used, and we did not always use one. The PM told me that he just wanted to tell people something, but he knew certain parts of the story couldn't be pulled off by the average player (for lack of a better word).

I don't know what the motivation behind all of this was. He's never revealed anything about himself to me and all locations (save Niobrara County) were chosen by myself. Whatever he's doing is flexible. I added a couple of short stories I'd worked on to the project as well. He refused one, stating rather adamantly that it meant nothing to his project.

He hasn't spoken to me in some time. I feel rather guilty because a large percentage of SA believes me to have been the sole creator and I'm even given full credit in the Wikipedia article. In the end, I know jackshit about what this is. I don't understand his motivations. I can't make the videos. They creep the hell outta me, personally. I know nothing about the origins of this website, except that it probably served as an important "prop" in an earlier project he worked on. I think he may be the OC_James guy who apparently has links elsewhere. I just don't know.

I was just along for the ride.

And to prove I am Senor Bambos, I will link my profile.
http://forums.somethingawful.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&username=Senor%20Bambos
I will add the next sentence posted in this thread to the Occupation field in my profile to prove I'm legit.

What he left this time (under a new thread called NEWNEWS) confirms he was just blowing smoke up our asses the whole time and NOT "losing interest". He posted it from theembodiment's account

YET AGAIN....TWAS ALL FOR BONERZ.

This...this is a fun game. I don't always play, but I enjoy the expierence when I do. I have never known a group of people who would follow something so ridiculously. The amount of abuse you people can take would almost be admirable if it wasn't for the fact this it was sorta...

YOU KNOW

Anyone, everybody say hello to my little puppet friend Pablo

HI GUYS

Nah, it wasn't really that funny the first time. I still have a soft spot for WI, since it was my first "ARG". Now... If JJ Abrams did a "t'was all for boners", that would be funny.

Yeah, I liked your idea... I even did some writing based on the plot you outlined (picking up where you ended it); but because of the nature of what happened with the game it will likely never see the light of day (at least not as an ARG; nobody would ever take it seriously, which is a shame).

If "Lost" ends this way, I will be sooooo annoyed because you ruined it for me. Smile

Honestly, I can't comprehend how WI was a "hoax". Because it wasn't real??? What ARG *is* real?!? It was pretty much just an awesome ARG that the PMs got bored with. Heck, the way it ended was actually even better (in my opinion) than your run-of-the-mill "You defeated Father Paranoia and all is right with the world! A winner is you!" game-ending scenario.
WI was a blast, whatever it was. I still think those videos are masterpieces.
The Red King ARG was kind of...dull...actually. If Red King hoaxed anyone, it was the people who created it, since nobody really seemed to get into it.
WI was my first ARG, too, and I have yet to find myself drawn into one as deeply and as powerfully as I was into that one. Call it a "hoax" or what you will, but it was masterfully done.

Except that they were pretty much determined from the start just to grab followers, see how long they could string folks along, and then quit. So it wasn't an awesome ARG the PMs got bored with, it was a fake ARG that the PMs designed to be awesome just to see how long they could keep people going, until they got bored with that.

I enjoyed it, but Bambos himself has stated that he never really meant it to be anything but a cocktease.

I was thinking more along the lines of 01-18-08... But it would work for Lost just as well. ^.^

I wouldn't use the term "designed"... Or, at the very least, use it very loosely. I think the only thing the PMs actually designed were the videos. I got the feeling that much of the rest was sort of made up on the fly (based on our spec), which is interesting in that the players (without realizing it) had just as much of a role in creating the story as the PMs did... I still sorta doubt that it was ever really intended to be an ARG in the first place (it would have been much creepier if they had released the videos without any backstory or game associated with it; let our imaginations run wild).

I would suspect he may have started both projects with serious intention, gets either frustrated or bored and then says it was all just a joke in a poor attempt to save face

Anyway, I posted the video to Google and then linked to it from SA. It became incredibly popular and appeared on a ton of blogs. The most intelligent discussion about it seemed to be at Unfiction.com. ViralDetector (The Detector) helped me by registering there and posting as a plant.

. . .

We pretty much played along with what the players seemed to want, and handed out some arbitrary tasks to people.

Q: Did you have some clear goal written, or a sufficient end for it?
A: Not at all.

(From a thread afterwards on SomethingAwful)

He never took it the Wyoming Incident seriously.

EDIT: Dunno about the Red King. I'm still not sure that one's Bambos.

Just reading through the Red King blog you can tell it's the same writer as the WI. I think Bambos at least has a future ahead of him as a writer for a pro wrestling company somewhere as he's good at drawing people in and not delivering a payoff to the story.

Have you still got what you've written? I'd like to read it.

Bits and pieces... A lot of it is still in my head, but I've got a timeline and a few snippets. I started working on it during the pause in Eldrich Errors, and when the second chapter started up I kinda put it on the shelf for the time being.
