[DK][UPDATE] WhySoSerious (Halloween '07) New update to wss.com, post-comiccon In an effort to keep trailheads and subjects organized, let's leave the ComicCon thread for WhySoSerious and bring the new updates to WSS.com into this thread, as it seems it's a countdown to Halloween.
To clarify, this new discovery was first mentioned and discussion began in this post in the IBIHDT.com thread.
Status:
* Whysoserious.com updated with a clear black screen, save a pumpkin carved with a mouth in the appearance of a bat, with a candle slowly dwindling, likely to fizzle on Halloween.
* The facial carving is believed to be a reference to Batman: The Long Halloween

(via Wikipedia:)
The Long Halloween, along with Batman: The Man Who Falls, Batman: Year One, and various comics from the 1970s, all served as inspiration for the 2005 film release Batman Begins, as well as the upcoming sequel, The Dark Knight.
* NewSpeak also posted some interesting connections

Thanks - it makes sense to have everything on one thread - glad I don't have to go back and forth.
Edited: maybe it is just going to be a form that appears. I see in the source a code for a form, but I don't see a form on the website:
form name="form1" method="post" action="Default.aspx" id="form1"

(From IBIHDT.com thread) does it look like to you guys that the pumpkin is rotting?
The pumpkin has indeed started to rot on the right side. Looks like the nod the The Long Halloween is definitely there.

Cool, it is starting to rot on the right. Weird having a Two Face reference on what's supposed to be The Joker's page. I wonder if this'll kick off some Dent campaign activity...
EDIT: Checked the site just after midnight, and that does seem to be when it updates. It's more rotted on the right side then it was 30 minutes prior.

nice if the long halloween is indeed inspiration for the film the reason the strong harvey dent reference must be because
Quote:
the story revolves around the gradual transition of Batman's rogues' gallery from simple mob goons to full-fledged supervillains. It is also the origin of Two-Face
so maybe two-face is a big role in the series of films[/sub]
ETA:another unknown female that supports dent can't make out who it is though! any guesses?
ALSO SOME INDICATION TO WHAT HAPPENS ON HALLOWEEN MAYBE
Quote:
On the day of Halloween, Johnny Viti is shot twice in the head by an unknown assailant while taking a bath. The perpetrator leaves behind the murder weapon, a .22 caliber pistol with the nipple of a baby bottle used as a crude silencer, as well as a jack-o-lantern

I thought the Dark Knight was going to be at least partially based on The Killing Joke.
I mean, Heath Ledger was given that particular Graphic Novel (amazing read) to prepare for the part....
Haven't read the Long Halloween, though.
Also, I'm glad to see less clowns in this update.

There will always be clowns.
I don't think they've based the script off of just one part of the Batman continuity.
Heath Ledger might've been give that particular GN to focus on how they wanted to see Joker.
The pumpkin on WSS.com could also just be there for us fans who keep watching that site, it might, and I'm hoping not, be nothing but eyecandy to tide us over.

Then again, there might be more....
Wasn't whysoserious packed with puzzles before the Rentaclown scenario?

in the comic universe it is being speculated that the story of DK will be based off of The Long Halloween and The Killing Joke . The LH references are obvious if you've read it and KJ deals w/ Joker's origins. Joker doesn't have a very big role in LH. Sorry if I'm just stating stuff that everyone knows, though.

I didn't. Thanks
I need to read LH.

It's one of the best Batman books out there, and easy to follow along with since it happens so early in the series. I'm super psyched for the movie!

Yeah, WSS.com was created for the event at ComicCon, and had a lot of puzzles on it.

Yes, it was a scavenger hunt type of thing where you needed people who were at comic con to help you at home on the computer. Very well done I must add.
I'm so psyched, I will now buy The Long Halloween and The Killing Joke. No, I haven't read either.
