Greetings from India Was anyone else blessed with a postcard from Gup while she was India? Mine had something of a mystery on it that I, of course, took straight to Sapagoo for help with. http://www.unfiction.com/~tienle/gup.jpg
I'm probably being silly, but I want this to be a rabbit hole.

I got one today, but I have no scanner nor do I have a way to transcribe the lettering.
I think I'm, ummm, #5. I think.
Thanks for the postcard, Gup!!!!

You could go to the web site in the spoiler from my post and tell us which letters you got.

Re: Greetings from India. Ozy,
If you can't scan it, or photo copy it, or take a digital picture of it, can you tell us what it looks like?
I am guessing that the beginning starts with the same 2 characters:
@ type symbol (starts in the middle, down to the left, up then down to the right. then straight up in a circle back to the lower right.
cursive capital Z (starts on the left, goes up to the top, down to the left and back around to the start, looping farther right and farther down, then looping back up and even farther right and up.
followed by a "# 5 :"
Then I guess you have another line of characters.
How many characters?
if you can describe them, maybe we can post pictures for you to compare and critique.

Sap, I am trying to decipher my piece. You are right about the two characters and the #5. After that is what looks like three more characters; one that sort of resembles a cross between the symbol for pi and maybe a lowercase "t", then one that looks a bit like a wiggly "w" with an extra curlicue at the end, and finally one that sort of looks like a floating sperm (sorry, but it does!) with a dot on top.
Hope this helps, but I'm not holding my breath..... sorry
Ozy, who sucks because he has no scanner or webcam or NUTHIN. In fact he transcribes all of these posts onto his stone tablet which is connected directly to the intarweb via a USB port.

Not English, but a great little resource , although I don't have much time to dig.
I did notice that sometimes, depending on how the word is written, one letter can change the whole structure of the word.
Got as far as SO MI ( SO MY?)using the first 4 charcters of the second line of SB's card (must be capitalized). The first three are SO the fourth is MI.....I think....lol
The closest I could come to the last character in the second line is "la" (lowercase).....maybe it's a song?
SO MI la.....?
I dunno, just tryin' to help

Tien....
I get something along the lines of :
malaicaL
I'm not sure if I'm doing this right .........
And then there's the issue of K's vs C's etc....
