They changed the poster from portrait to landscape. They shrunk the left side of the poster to fit the height, but kept the city on the right full size. To keep lady liberty in the same spot, they had to add a little city to the left.
That's the thing though, if you look at the two they didn't have to add anything, they actually replaced part of what was there rather than stretch it. Just seems odd. They also didn't shrink the city on the left, it was stretched just as the right was. The 'anchor point' for each side's stretching was basically behind or on the torch side of the SoL, which kept her centered.
Again, I don't consider this a 'clue', just a peculiar edit with the possibility of a tangential reason for it.

I dunno...do the French have different poster layouts than America? Maybe in France, movie posters are more horizontal than vertical, requiring American posters to be streeeetched to fit.
Just total spec, since I've never been to a French theater.

I don't know if we get the same poster as French's one, but here (Quebec, Canada) we get the same posters as the one distributed trhrough north america. The only difference is the french title. And since we are talking about poster size, I don't remember any movie poster with a different format (wider, taller, or else) if you don't count the promotionnal banners, full wall covers, window frames, etc.

I don't consider it a clue either, so I don't want to split hairs, but I duplicated the picture in Photoshop using the original poster. The city on the right is much larger, and stretched to be wider. The city on the left is shrunk proportionally to the Statue of Liberty, however it wasn't wide enough, so "extra" buildings were added.

The left side of each image is the extent of the poster. The lines show that they're at the same scale based on the buidling with the round roof. The image just needed to go a bit farther to fit whatever dimensions those crazy French wanted to have.

I have a good friend who lives in the south of France and I spoke with him earlier today. I ask him about the difference in poster size between the U.S and France and he said many of the marques over there are quiet a bit larger. I'm originally from the U.K but I lived there when I was young and don't really remember a significant difference.

Not sure if this has been said yet, but I would like to formally announce my "HAHA" to all those out there who are still convinced the person said "It's a lion".
The french translation goes into "c'est vivant" which means "it's alive".
For those who didn't read it, or may have shrugged it off, I would like to repeat my phrase to all those "it's a lion" believers with a formal "HAHA".

Decent collection of easily recognisable landmarks in a local "easy to shoot over a series of days" area.
