Looking at some of the international sites listed on Paramount's international site is very interesting. IMDB asserts that Belgium is getting the movie on January 23rd, but if you click Belgium in the list of sites it takes you to the Netherlands site, which shows the debut of February 7th.

The poster art on the Netherlands site is roughly the same, but the color is a bit different. I wonder what sort of differences in taste motivate the subtle changes?

Could be an issue with regional setting of their editing software. As an example, our business logo keep the same Pantone colors but between each reprint there is subtle nuance, that you only notice when the colors are side by side.

exactly and they employed different companies that set up the individual sites for them which in turn got different computers + settings

I think the latter would keep the 'clutter' down for the moment.

Edited for fat finger typing.

good idea i think thad wud b helpful

also in the austrian (dubbed) trailer he says "ich habs gesehn! es ist riesig" "I have seen it! its huge".

and rob says something along the lines of "hat jemand jensen gesehn?". "has anyone seen jensen"

anyone find it weird that hes more worried bout that guy than his girl Shocked Rolling Eyes

Well I think that 'Jensen' is some odd attempt to translate Jason, who is Rob's brother. Of course he's worried about his brother, especially if he actually knows where his 'girl' is. As of yet, he doesn't have an actual relationship established with any girl that we've seen, does he?
He wants Beth, but she's just brushing him off it seems, eh?

Since you obviously don't believe me when I say that my family name is Jensen, or what I said about that name being Danish and nothing to do with "Jason" (which is from Greece), here's a source. I'm not gonna list them all.

FROM BabyNamesWorld.com:

The name Jensen
Origin: Danish (Scandanavian)/ Scottish thru Danish conquest
Meaning: Son of Johannes (John/James)

The name Jason
Origin: Greek
Meaning: Healer

Additionally, the funds to complete the statue's pedestal were brought in after Joseph Pulitzer announced a campaign to fund the deficit in the construction fund through editorials in the newspaper, The World (not to mention, doubling and then redoubling that newspaper's readership. I can even provide a scan of the front page announcement, if you'd like. Smile) - Source: Statue of Liberty - Oscar Handlin (Page 54-55).

Not some 'inspired catholic school girls' like your rhetoric claimed, don't try to push off something with a half-hearted mention of "I saw that in a PBS documentary" or "countless books and historical sites" without posting a title or link. It's foolish when we have the books and resources that we can list at a moment's notice.

clownnation, thanks for the time and dedication you've invested here.

As for this...

The left portion, as you have identified has been stretched and are not new buildings. The two most prominent ones in question, the one with a dome and one with a just notable pyramid are from the World Financial Center, next to the former World Trade Center site. The building in the foreground, the domed one, has been left untouched, however the one with the peaked roof has been stretched... you can still see the basic stepped sides of the peaked WFC building on the building you've marked with a blue question mark. The building with the yellow question mark is the small dark building immediately to the left of the peaked WFC building.

It's been stretched, it isn't some weird merging of some buildings in Paris or France.

I found this a while back. It's about dynamic resizing of images. Pretty interesting stuff.

After watching this, it is possible that this is the method they used for changing the image. So it would mean that it had no real meaning to the adding or taking away of buildings.

Exactly, even if that specific method wasn't used, the difference in buildings has been created simply by stretching them to the left (in the example of the WFC towers) and shrinking them to the right (in terms of the skyscrapers to the right of the hole). It was unlikely to be some sort of hidden clue because it wasn't a themed site like Slusho, Bold Futura or Tagruato and it would've been unfair to hide some odd clue in the background of the french trailer site and run the risk of being overlooked.

Interesting video! Also, some of the replies to it are interesting, like the fact that it could ruin the original thought and care that the photographer or artist put into the making of the picture.

After checking the seam carving video posted above, I found this free online software:

FotoFlexer

FotoFlexer Demo Video

Another online tool using Flash: Rsizer.

Photoshop Smart Resize plugin (free for images 640x480 or less)

Gimp Plugin (free)

More information and links

These will all perform the aforementioned Seam Carving with relative ease. Anyone want to try their hand at recreating the resized French poster? The author of the tool used in the original video now works for Adobe, so expect a plugin/feature update sometime soon.

I think renaming this thread to "International Sites and Trailers" is a great idea. e2c?

Also, I didn't see this mentioned ITT, but the release date in France, 06-02-08, is February 06, 2008 - NOT June 02, 2008.

I think the rest of the world uses DAY-MONTH-YEAR format for their dates, instead of MONTH-DAY-YEAR like in the US.

I thought that was interesting, but I don't think they used such technology on the stretches in the images. The odd looking building on the left of the background looks like it could be one of the ones shown, but it's a really ugly stretch. The closer I look at that image, the more I see a rather rushed and choppy edit. The odd stretch and scale that occurs on the right hand side of the SoL is a sign of a really brute force method.

As for those items you posted - you absolutely rock!
That is just so cool!
I use both Photoshop and The GIMP, so those'll be some of the handiest plugins I've gotten since I got the free (GPL) .ico plugin for Photoshop.
Thanks a TON!

I just think no one in france really cares about what new york looks like so they made the buildings bigger to fit them onto the screen. Have you guys ever sat down and looked at a sheet of paper thinking there was actually writing on it that maybe you couldn't see? Cause that's how you're acting I think. Pretty sure it's irrelevant.
