[GAME/META] Write your own adventure - RULES
or "our plot's better" ;) - read me first.

Not sure how well this is going to work, but with the sheer amount of hype the movie is never going to be able to live up to expectation is it? Wink

So I got to thinking that maybe we should write our own script. It's monumental arrogance, but frankly, we know what we want and we'll do a better job.

So, there are but three rules of the game:

One post per person, per thread page - spread the love.

Any discussions about the game in this thread so as not to interrupt the script thread.

End each post with some sort of baton that the next person can pick up and run with, like:

Panning over the crowd we see an enormous, threatening, fire-breathing...

Re: [GAME/META] Choose your own adventure
or "our plot's better" ;) - read me first.

This sounds like a fun idea.

Personally, I would re-title this post to

Choose your own adventure - RULES

and the other post

Choose your own adventure - STORY

Please keep the "story" all in one thread. We have enough thread clutter as it is. You can link to specific posts by right-clicking the tiny little "page" image next to the "posted date"

Your idea is really a "write your own adventure", but a "choose your own adventure" could work like this:

  • One person posts a piece of a story, then two choices
  • Someone else can write the next piece and post their two choices
  • then the parent post can link to the new posts.

It would require the people who write a piece to make sure they check back (in a timely manner), so the links could be updated. it would probably be easier it an Admin ran this, that way they could add the links to other peoples posts.

For example:

The lights go out at the party, and you hear a loud roar. Do you:
1. Run up to the roof
2. Turn on the news

Thanks - have clarified titles. I think we'd end up with an awful lot of threads and links with a choose your own adventure - is write your own OK for now? Wink My bad.

You're right, all the linking would be a nightmare to maintain.

Your idea is great, and much easier to implement. Rock On! Rock On

This is a great idea. Should be fun to see if we come anywheree close to the actual movie.

I have to say, I've seen these kind of games done on a board before and unless the board is basically suited directly to them they tend to go astray. Only if you can moderate the story a bit to keep it on track does it tend to stay on track.
I see our story has already gone pretty much this way.
I see a funny spelling error (Ron instead of Rob) and a significant continuity error (Hud can be in two places at once!), then it just goes completely askew from there.

I hope you folks have a sense of humor about those who will try to steer this ship into a reef. If you don't you're gonna be really unhappy.
I did get a laugh out of the last couple of entries (to date).

No requirement for moderation - just a bit of fun (unless it gets obscene Embarassed ). As it's a community effort continuity errors are the icing on its addled cake. Smile

Maybe it's a bit early to speculate about this, but...how would we go about ending this? And for that matter, who gets the honor of ending this story? If it goes well, I hope we never get around to ending it (until January '08, at least), but I'm kind of worried that someone might post a "then Rob wakes up. 'Whew...it was all just a dream'" and that'd be that.
