I don't know how reliable this Devin guy is, so I'll believe it when I see it. Nothing reported was new really, it basically just brings all of the most popular rumours together into one report. So either we're all incredibly good at speculation, or this guy's full of shit. We'll see.

RE: The Brooklyn Bridge...I did hear from a somewhat reliable source months ago that they would be filming there, so I do buy that part. Although, from his report, it really doesn't sound like all of the shots are from the same camera, which TJ Miller contradicts. How is there a shot from inside the chopper while it's going down? Unless I read that wrong...he wasn't very clear.

What does that prove? They are all quoting the same source.

Go back and look at the "overnight" rumor, and how much coverage that got (which was started here, btw). Even CNBC ran a story about it!

Oh, I definitely don't get the impression he's a fan. I assume he is some kind of quasi-insider who got a chance to look at a heavily hyped piece of film, and then wrote it up. I doubt he's ever looked at the Myspace pages or any of the other sites. I don't assume he's locked into the whole online experience the way folks at this forum are; he's just the lucky writer who got to see the footage ASSUMING that this whole writeup and/or footage is legitimate. He probably has a broad, general awareness of the hype and the online activity perhaps, but he probably assumes people are mostly fixated on the title and the look of the monster, not on whether or not Rob Hawkins works for Tagruato, whether Jamie is cheating on Teddy, and the significance of hammers, cheese and blue oven mitts.

I share the opinion that while it all sounds plausible, it's almost too plausible. However, I don't share the opinion that if it's correct it means the movie sucks. It still sounds very interesting to me. And as far as the title, at this point I couldn't care less what it was called. Even it were titled, say, Door Knob, I'd still be planning to see it.

I would also see the movie no matter what it is called. I would be really pissed if it was something like "Overnight". I don't like the sound of it.

Door Knob sounds like a Canadian monster movie. An evil doorknob attacks people when no one is looking.

I think that title was subconsciously inspired by my memories of Josie Packard on Twin Peaks being turned into a drawer knob. Smile

Sorry.

i guess im not saying it proves its real, but also in the same respect if CHUD had the reputation of throwing out hoaxes, im thinking it would be benificial for the other sites not to post an article about it.

but if CHUD had the reputatioon for being pretty reliable, i could understand that these other sites would print it and use CHUD as a source.

i guess im more so thinking of this as a logical business aspect. Smile

i am also a bit skeptic of this article because of the past information thats turned out to be false, also im not really excited to go see a movie just for the trailer.

I would feel better about this account of the trailer if he had been a little more forthcoming about the circumstances under which he got to see it. He just basically says he got to watch it, and was "allowed" to view it only twice. I realize that if this really happened, the person allowing him to see it would likely get in a bunch of trouble, and so he has to kind of protect his source, but the who/how/where questions surrounding his viewing are just too mysterious.

How many people would have legitimate access to the trailer at this point, anyway? The folks at the production house creating the trailer, some Paramount folks, maybe? I'm thinking that if this really was leaked, there isn't a very long list of people to go through on your witch hunt to find the guilty party. So why would anyone on that short list take a chance like this? Something just doesn't add up...

The Monster..

it was huge??? Didnt we know that already?? Did it walk on 2 legs upright?? Did it walk on all fours?? Multiple heads?? Scales?? Hairy?? Slimy?? Other?? How could he see it was huge, but nothing else?? Even if it was a shadow of it you could still get something.

By the way, where are the other movie posters?? Wasnt there going to be 3??

Oh, long time reader, first time poster.

Well... I'm not sure how the line of production works in the movie industry, but it seems to me that at some point they're delivering the beowulf movie reels to the movie theater co's and/or getting ready to distribute them out the theaters, so it seems like some flunky who works on the delivery truck or a warehouse something could have gotten a peek & shown it to this guy. Since Beowulf is coming out in a couple of weeks, it stands to reason that they're getting ready to ship these things out if they aren't already in the process. I'm just guessing, though, can someone else enlighten us? Not that I think it's legit, mind you - just putting it out there.

About this article about the supposed trailer:

1. The article states, or at least implies, that in the trailer, Rob is the narrator. We know know from the interview with Hud's actor, that Hud is behind the camera. I think it is unlikely that Rob is made out to be the camera man in the trailer, when in the movie he is not. It would appear that the guy who wrote the article was a little behind.

2. The various scenes described, almost all link back to something that has been speculated, or something we've seen.

a) The fast-forwarded first trailer.
b) He describes various scenes of chaos, the only one that he can 'remember' coincidently sounds like the poster.
c) The scenes of people arguing about what to do are essentially the same phrases used in any American action movie trailer.
d) "Shadows of a screaming woman being attacked by a small monster" this sounds rather like a supposed extra who posted on here before, although this may be support for them, I am very convinced it was a hoax.
e) The smaller monsters, this was thrown around quite alot. In fact he specifically mentions how its like Godzilla.
f) The scene of a monster passing through two buildings, if i remember correctly, is from Godzilla.

3) Why would the army designate Central Park, or New york as cloverfield? If im correct, the reason Cloverfield was chosen as a name was because it was a town with some relevance to Abrahms past.

4) The fact he says this will play before beowulf makes no sense in regards to the style of Trailer. The original trailer was essentially a very secretive trailer, this style suited being played just before a movie, being very mysterious. However, the new trailer has the same format as an action movie trailer: (Teaser line, Clips, informative line, Clips, Informative line, Clips, produce/director, Clips and some dramatic speech, end.) And that kind of trailer a normal trailer, not a viral trailer like the first. This mismatch seems odd.

5) It doesn't have paramount or bad robot logos.

6) This isnt hard evidence, but the scenes described don't sound like they could be effectively filmed with a hand held camera, yet he says they were.

7) Again, not real evidence, but Im also very sure that the next trailer will not be before a movie.

Essentially, I have no doubt in my mind that this is fake.

P.S:

If im correct there are three with different works, like monstrous. Not sure about that though.

I'm going to believe, without any analysis or dissection. I'll just put some faith, you know, for a change.

Not liking it. First this, the title. I mean, after all that misterious 'codename: Cloverfield' crap they say the name is actually Cloverfield? and is not that is a bad name, is just that it makes me think they were trying to come up with a better one but then gave up.

Then the fact that Rob is innocent and it seems like he knows nothing. Sure, it may be an act and later on he may go 'yes I knew this was going to happen I confess!' but that's cheesy. And if he really doesn't know, then the whole Slusho 7, Tagruato workers, etc, falls into red hearrings, proving once and for all this ARG or ARE or Chaotic Fiction sucked as much as we feared.

Super shaky style. Not good. Seems like an excuse to avoid having a high quality monster. I like the POV idea, but come on, not everyone is useless when it comes to handling a camera. Some people actually can hold one steady.

It seems they built too much expectations, and they're afraid not to fullfill their promises.

Based on this projectionist's account of the process
http://boysofbabylonproduction.com/movietheater/movie101.htm
it sounds like it's still too early for anything to be shipping to theaters. Also, the article says the trailer was labeled with a version number and some comments about new FX. Well, what exactly was labeled? I'm assuming he's referring to a DVD or CD, not a film print.

Oh how i would love to dismiss this as fake. Do i believe it, no. But i cant say its false. I cant bring myself to do it. Weve waited so long. Please. But right now, ill call it fake and plan on going to opening night.

On another note, wouldnt it be sweet to see a slusho! commericial before Beowulf? I think thatld be better.

Well, for those coming into this late, here's links that point to what the reporter Devin really thinks of "Cloverfield", including his initial source, Dread Central:

CLOVERFIELD IS ESSENTIALLY A REMAKE OF THE 1998 GODZILLA (CHUD, Devin Faraci, 08.21.07)

Exclusive Cloverfield Info! (Dread Central, Undeadmin, 08.17.2007)

That doesn't even include the article he posted 15 hours before his "exclusive":

JJ ABRAMS TO FINALLY TOSS US CLOVERFIELD SCRAPS
(CHUD, Devin Faraci, 10.31.07)

It sounds to me like he hated this project from the get-go, just like was mentioned earlier. Could this guy be an attention whore, just looking to gain hits on his articles? I'm not impressed with his earlier work, so maybe. Could we be facing a red herring from JJ to fool the press? I hope so.

Logically, I would think that there'd be SOMETHING new reported if he actually saw the trailer. Everything he mentioned has been reported as speculation already. I am beginning to seriously doubt that someone who clearly hates this movie would be the only person on the internet to preview the new trailer early -- and then spill the beans. Lawsuit anyone? Funny, as I write this, the CHUD site seems to have gone down...
