Just got an e-mail from Transmission. Says "SYSTEM RESET" a bunch of times. Dunno if that's a good thing or bad.

When I met with Jonah, at one point he asked me about where we had a certain bit of information (I don't recall what)... Obviously it was here on uF, and obviously it'd be a big faux-pas to tell him uF. So, I said "weeeeeell... One of the message boards..." And he immediately said "I don't need to know which one!"

They don't want to be breaking the curtain, not in that respect.

For the record, "one of the message boards" was as detailed and descriptive as I was going to get. I had told him that we have more than one, anyway.

It was my fault for asking the question and I will take the blame. I wonder if that is why he was silenced as well. On the about us page there was the statement that this is not an ARG, and it was discussed in IRC and it sounded like some people were going to quit because of it. It was an afterthought at the very end of my email when I asked him.
I was the one that tore the curtain, and I apologize. I try to stay silent (and now you know it's with good reason).

I had an email conversation with Jane (Two of Hearts) today... an email conversation I attempted to start on October 20.

bold = 2H wrote:
(referring to the Two of Diamonds) So... he made some phone calls to us last night. He has an extremely gentle voice, and sounds like the kind of man that only speaks when he has something that will add to the conversation (as opposed to people like myself and Jonah that will speak only to fill the silence). I only spoke to him for two minutes, but one thing from that brief conversation has stuck with me. When he was about to go, I thanked him for calling, told him I appreciated the talk, and said I looked forward to the next time... he sounded like I caught him off-guard, like he wasn't expecting someone to say something like that. It makes me a little sad to think that would catch him by surprise... Do not many people treat him with kindness and respect?

Erin

"Do not many people treat him with kindness and respect?"

not many people in this world treat others with kindness and respect.
it's always a pleasant surprise.

paix et amour,
2h (jane)

That thought really does make me sad.

Erin

well, keep being who you are, and you can be a light in the darkness.

paix at amour,
2h (jane)

I really hope I can... The other passengers seem to help. We all shine
pretty bright.

Erin

"and we all shine on...
like the moon, and the stars, and the sun..."

paix et amour,
2h (jane)

I also made a bulletin on my myspace, basically letting everyone know I'll be gone for a week (deadpan "yaaaay.") and got this reply back from her:
2H wrote:

60s is freezing? Listen, if you are online, don't worry about me for the
rest of the month. Go ahead and spread the word. You'll hear more from me
in a few weeks anyway.

2D

So there you go. I asked Loli to spread this in IRC, as I'm in Illinois and away from IRC access. (Yay sidekick)

Emails from the deuces

I sent this email to all of the unsilenced deuces last night....(and yes I know I should have said 6c instead of 6s Embarassed )

Are you alright? Your myspace page was hacked and silverladder.com was hacked. This really feels bad, I hope the aces can fix it.

Someone calling himself explodingonion came into the chat room today
trying to recruit for the Korp. He also said he was the joker and
showed us what he did to your myspaces. He also said he was the 6 of spades and also called himself slaveriddler. I can't remember who all else he said he was.

He was trying to bribe people to come over to the Korp side. Chronus
is so sweet, he's trying to bring him back into the fold...do you (the
cards in general) think we should try to be nice to him and try to convince
him to come back to the deck? I have no desire to be nice to him or try to convince him of anything besides leaving us alone, but I admire Chronus for attempting to do it. He is bold.
Take care and much love,
W2

Quote:
Bribe people how?

Is he working with Chronus?

Either way, don't worry about him right now. If you have the time, don't
worry about us until the 11th. Do what you can to spread the word. We'll
be around.

2D

waitress,

we are alright. we got word of the hacks yesterday and have people on it
right now. we have email capacity again and are working on getting the
site fixed. the myspace pages are on hold right now.

slaveriddler is one of the jokers. from one moment to the next, it's
impossible to predict what they'll be doing or who they'll be serving.
right now, slaveriddler is on board with the korporation. apparently they
made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

actually, i think he was probably referring to the six of clubs (the fallen card), not the six of spades. the six of clubs was (is) intelligent and talented, but the power he was given wasn't enough for him
and didn't come quickly enough. his impatience and obsession with power
drove him mad, and he started dealing with the korporation (and other
unsavory elements. he was kicked out of the deck a while back (it may
have been a month ago). slaveriddler isn't the six of clubs, but as a
wild card, he can be pretty much who he wants when he wants, or at least
he can mirror them. this is a frightening scenario, especially when you
consider how unstable the jokers are.

you can try to convert him back, but i don't know what good it will do.
jokers can change at a moment's notice-- for better or worse. as far as
the six of clubs, there is no coming back from where he is at. his core
is black.

paix et amour,
2h (jane)

From 2H
silverladder webmail is safe

Email from 2H, she said as usual we can share any emails we receive unless they tell us otherwise.

webmail is safe. they didn't go after it. there wasn't anything in it
they were after. the attack was designed to cause confusion and mayhem.
they want to do anything they can to get rid of all of us, and you
passengers as well. they don't want the rabbit hole to open. it's not
that something so massive or significant is going to happen when the
rabbit hole opens. it's that the opening is the start of a journey that
may very well lead somewhere that they don't want people to go. it's
going to open people's eyes, people's minds, and get people to start
caring about each other and thinking differently about art and culture and
music and literature and just life in general. the korporation can't
stand that. they think people should just submit to the status quo and
keep their mouths shut.

I'm sure you are aware of this now, but your MySpace pages were hacked. And so was Silver Ladder.

I find it disconcerting that a group of individuals would act like
children to upstage everything ya'll are trying to do. And it's a little
discouraging to think about why they would do it.

What kind of threat do you pose to them that they continue to hack,
thwart, and try to destroy your credibility? A free mind and an open heart? Are they trying to destroy the open minded thinker?

Well, Anyway... I'll be here. My heart feels for the deck too much to
turn away now.

Your friend, Sythys

sythys,

thanks for the info. yes, we received word of the hacks last night. it
seems the korporation has at least one joker (slaveriddler) in their
pocket at the momet. when he is in a mood to help us, he can be an
extremely valuable asset. he has a lot to contribute. the problem with
jokers, however, is that they are extremely unpredictable.

the korporation is doing this because we pose a threat to their system and
power. when a group like us, that is not offering money or power, can
draw more attention and participation than they can, it upsets them. they
don't like any challenge to their monopoly on people's attention. they
tried to buy us out. we refused. they're now resorting to coercion,
threats, and mayhem. i'm sure this won't be the last time they try to
stop us.

thank you for your support. it is crucial that we spend these last ten
days before the opening of the rabbit hole recruiting more like-minded
people and getting the word out about our journey. please let the others
know this.

paix et amour,
2h (jane)

Something a little more positive...

I sent an e-mail to all three deuces about the videos, and why we haven't gotten anymore since we first kicked off. Got a cool one response from 2H:

Quote:
jonah created those and i think part of his silencing may be a restriction
from communicating through videos. but i agree with you. i think,
leading up to the rabbit hole, we need one more strong declaration of our
presence and at least some of our intentions. it would be nice for the
passengers to have something to use to invite more like-minded people on
board.

after the rabbit hole opens, i would certainly hope there would be more.
though some of them give me chills, i kind of enjoy the rush. who doesn't
like to be (a little bit) scared now and then?

paix et amour,
2h (jane)

Email with 2D

I'm not sure if we're still using this to catalog email correspondence, it would appear that we aren't, but I thought I'd post this just in case as it is fairly insightful into 2D's challenge. I also posted it in the "This week in Silverladder" thread but here it is as well.
My initial email:

Quote:

Subject: Outdone?

Hello.

I try to avoid uselessly criticizing works of art in any medium. Art is
subjective, and any standards for judging it are bound to be arbitrary.
I appreciate all that I am able to about a piece, and try to understand
it rather than belittle it. I am not conceited enough to claim that I
outdo anything or anyone, but I have at least attempted to make my own
contribution. This video may not be what you are looking for, but I
directed and edited it, and I am proud of it as my attempt to
contribute, rather than tear down.

Mitchell
theRISKYshift

2D's response:
Quote:

Sometimes you don't even need to understand it. All you might need to
understand is that ... other people understand it.

I'm having trouble viewing your video. Do you mind if I send it to another
passenger to convert for youtube?

2D

My second email:
Quote:

I enjoyed your wording, that one only need understand that others understand a piece. It's concise, yet conveys fully the intended meaning. Orwell would be proud.

The video is online here

Sorry I sent it in .wmv to begin with, I should have considered the issues it might raise.

Mitchell
theRISKYshift

I didn't get a response beyond that, but his email certainly suggests that it isn't about outdoing art, assigning a value to it, or even understanding it, merely appreciating it and creating it.

Concluding Assignment

An email today from 2d to all of us

Quote:
Passengers,

I have two more things for you. The first is to give thanks. I give
thanks
that so many of you have put so much thought into things.

The second is to send your final thoughts on this week, along with any
photos or graphics. These will be used for a concluding statement on
silverladder.com, so do not send anything you do not wish to be shared.
None of your previous emails to me will be shared, of course. Please
include your primary nickname because I won't post your e-mail
addresses.

The concluding Diamonds Assignment is due by the end of the day Friday.
Please pass this on to the other passengers.

Happy Thanksgiving
