[SPEC] The Mist & Cloverfield trailers

Let me preface this by saying: read the King novella "The Mist", and watch the movie on the 21st. Its gonna be amazing.

Now, down to business. Watch the 2nd trailer for The Mist at this site: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809834165/video/3906309/. Listen to the audio between 0:43-0:45 closely. Now watch the Cloverfield trailer from 1:12-1:15. Notice anything? IMO.... exact same audio clip.
This most likely means nothing. I can't think of any relevance, other than that its interesting. Maybe ComingSoon.net is wrong, and the new trailer comes before the mist? I dunno. It's damned cool, though.

EDIT: You're probably just watching the first trailer. Make sure you click on No. 2.

This is probably better marked as OOG or OT

Hello!

You may want to change it to [OOG] or [OT] in case folks get crabby at you.

Anyways, I understand what you're saying, the similarity I think lay more in the fact it's noise that's gated. Similar, but I'd think nothing of it.

Foley artists do use sounds that are common.

What would be cool is if both used The Wilhelm Scream!

As an aside, I don't get excite about King's work, he ( to me ) uses some Deux Ex Machina at the end of some things, though that trailer actually does interest me.

You know what makes me doubt you? You admit you can't think of any relevance to it. Neither can I. It's a coincidence.

OK, calm down. First of all, I never said "don't doubt me," I said "don't trout me;" you can doubt all you want. I'm posting it on a forum so that maybe others can offer an opinion why it may be relevant. If nothing else, this gives some insight in the sharing of audio clips among foley artists, as rhesusmonkeyboy pointed out.

If you're talking about the sounds we hear in the cloverfield trailer when they're running down from the roof - the choppy, rubble noises - then, I agree. It sounds like the same audio. [Also, The Mist looks pretty kick ass, doesn't it? I always liked that S.King "novella" - I'm glad someone finally made a movie of it]

As rhesusmonkeyboy pointed out, foley artists (the sound effects guys) often use common audio files/clips. I've noticed similar sounds in several movies before. For example, there's an audio file of glass breaking and one of a creaky door opening that I first heard when playing a Bethesda Softworks game (part of Daggerfall series - precursor to Oblivion). I've heard those exact same noises in many, many movies.

So, it probably IS the same bit of audio; but, it probably doesn't have any significance (unless you're into the how's and why's of foley artistry).

Sorry, yes, its the same scream heard in the 'running downstairs' bit of the cloverfield trailer, however, its probably just a stock sound effect for screaming groups.

This is a modern day "Wilhelm Scream"... No significance.

*EDIT*

"The Mist" is by MGM, not Paramount. I seriously doubt they'd help each other out.

Nighthawk is right...

I think our best bet is Beowulf still...
I wish it were The Mist, though, because I'd much rather see that.
(I heart Stephen King)
