[META][INFO] Title of moive claim from IMDB post

I'm a bit at loathe to post this, but it's another slow news day so why not. I personally don't buy it (kind of the same way the guy at CHUD put out he say the trailer) but it makes for some fun reading.

Why 'Chuai' is the title in one post w/ source listed
by Superfuzzzz 23 hours ago (Mon Nov 5 2007 15:21:01)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New info that the movie is called "CHUAI"
After the drilling station.
The monster is named after the drilling area that it came from.

I will give you my source.
His name is Guillermo Villalobos and he works on a studio lot as a sound tech.
Guess which studio company?
He cut a demo for my band 2 years ago and we have kept in touch since.
He was working with another sound tech that worked on "Chuai"
Since the title isn't the main secrecy issue as much as the movie, he said if I wanted to leak it he didn't care.
He is not under a gag order so he said he could care less.
Now he thinks this will make him famous.
If anyone needs a sound engineer for a studio he would like me to refer him.

I asked about a conspiracy theory and he said from what he understood the
drilling station is attacked and the attack is referred to vaguely as the "Chuai Station Incident"
When its learned what happened, they simply describe what they know is an "aggressive unknown living organism" as "Chuai" It isn't clear where its heading until it nears the east coast and appears on sonar or radar.

So I think its kept hush until New York City gets a visit.
Evidently there is a time lapse of a 3 to 7 days before the mosnter reaches NYC. And a Possibility that it attacks large ships in its path on its way to land. Which would explain why it didnt care for the Statue of Liberty.

Evidently Robby Hawkins gets word of what happened through a friend in the company (Teddy Hanssen is my guess) which to me explains why he seems not as shocked as everyone else at the party.

Thats all Im gonna get. More than I thought though.

Just an FYI: Ive known this guy for a few years and for the most part, I believe what he tells me. Although I wouldn't trust him alone with anyone's girlfriend. His word is usually good.
I told him that I would give his home address to this board if its not true.

Mostly a rehash of what's out there. Again, don't shoot the messenger, if anyone blame Abrams and his crew for a lack of anything new to discuss the past 3 weeks.

Edit: Tagged. -SpaceBass

I already commented on what I thought of that claim in another thread.
Still not believing it.

Blame this on not paying as much attention as I should, but how do you pronounce that?

Why would this make him famous? He leaked something, and the title is basically the biggest mystery here. And why in hell would they give a (albeit short one) plot summary to a sound guy? Pony?! B.S.

And whats with that pony? weird emotioncon eh?

A quick check of the US Trademark database turns up nothing on "Chuai".

On a sidenote, though, I see the trademark for "Overnight" had some activity on October 24th. I'm not an expert on their jargon, but it looks like it has been approved for publication.

This would appear to be the strongest evidence to date on the movie title (I admit "Overnight" has grown on me over the past few months).

If correct, I wonder if there was any IG evidence to this title that was missed…finding it via the U.S. Copyright Office seems a bit OOG (although a brilliant stroke of genius to whoever initially found this info back in July).

Ummm, I should probably do a search for the original topic on "Overnight" and repost there.

If you go to the second page on the USPTO page, you can see the actual logo. Looks kinda boring to me, to be honest. Does the font match anything else we've seen? I was hoping it would be in Futura Bold, but no dice.

"Approval for publication" - the activity named on that site - just means that they are displaying the trademark in what amounts to the Patent Office's periodic newsletter, so that people who think that they have the rights to the trademark have an opportunity to see what it looks like and challenge it if they think it infringes their rights. If no one objects after a certain period of time, then the USPTO officially grants the trademark and then they can safely use it. It doesn't mean that the owners have the right to put it out for public consumption yet, say, on a movie poster. Sorry to be a downer, but this was something that the USPTO did in its normal procedure for approving TMs, not JJA or Bad Robot or any of those guys... it's just your tax dollars at work, sifting through some red tape. But the USPTO is notoriously slow, so that could be what's holding up the release of the title.

Actually you'll notice that it states the word mark is not for any specific font or style or color. The image is also noted as being generated by the USPTO and not the applicant - so this is just an image of the word generated from whatever default fonts and colors the USPTO uses. I would suspect that the studio may wish to use it in more than just one specific font and is in this application only seeking to protect it's use as a title for a movie, tv show, etc.

Wow... I just got done arguing with that guy on ProjectCloverfield.com about "Chuai"

it got to the point where Jordan came in, spammed/deleted all his comments... he started insulting all of us because we starting tearing it apart...

he didnt hold up too long... i think its bogus

His reasoning that they reference the incident at Chuai Station was the only thing that really made any sense, and the possiblity of naming the monster after the initial place it attacked (like "The Monster That Attacked The Chuai Drilling Station") is about as far of a stretch I could make to consider Chuai being part of it's name...

But Chuai (pronouced Qwai or Kwai, possibly Chew-eye because the "u" is a long vowel) doesnt connotate destruction and mayham and will simply confuse people watching it (since the back story of Tagruato will probably get lost in the movie)

speaking of Tagruato.... is it just me, or does domaintools show it as "Ta Grua To"....
