IntellIM Conference with Thad 6/8

Here is the transcript of the coference with Thad.

Tobiibot(TOBI) made a couple of appearences and left a string of numbers ( poted by Bill in The Puzzle sect.

03:11PM ttidwell: Well, you are probably all aware that I have asked you to come here today in order for me to make my case against IdelTech, and to stop you from making a foolish mistake by blindly following whatever they do.

03:15PM ttidwell: I joined the army when I was a young man, thinking it was the only way I could help protect my country. I was more feisty then. Now I've realised that there are other ways of making a difference - like standing up for what you believe in.
03:16PM ljoyce: Thad, do you honestly believe that TOBI is going to become self-aware, or already has?
03:16PM ttidwell: I believe that TOBI will be a threat to everyone in this country. I have already witnessed him at work, and am convinced that by selling to the DOD, IdelTech will be making a horrific mistake.

03:16PM ljoyce: Then isn't it immoral to destroy something that is concious?
03:17PM lboomer: what kind of technical background do you have to be able to make these asuumptions about TobI's "awareness"?
03:17PM ttidwell: No. Not something like this. Throughout our lives, privacy is being gradually stripped away from us - security cameras, police, wiretaps - they have almost every trick up their sleeve to use with us. But TOBI is *too* powerful.
03:18PM ljoyce: So you believe it is okay to kill someone that is powerful?
03:18PM ttidwell: I have been learning about computers (slowly). I started when I left the army, but that was more theoretical. Learning about organisations such as EFF. Now I have been taking some classes - most recently in web design.

03:26PM ttidwell: The reason for this is that they've been workin 15 hour days just to install enough security software and firewalls to contain TOBI!

03:27PM ttidwell: It has already has gained access to the most secure and difficult databases in the country. Even those that are offline!!! It seems to drop bits of itself into a system, and then they regroup automatically, holding data somehow.

03:28PM lboomer: What about the threat of Omniscient eyes obtaining ToBi? Do you have a plan to keep that from happening?

03:35PM lboomer: I understand your position and must say that I am not enirely against it. But how can a small group of Restorers have a shot against an all knowing computer and the resources of the D.O.D.?

But even after the incident of earlier, you refuse to take it seriously. I would like some support from you - you all seem intelligent and strong minded. But my cause will continue either way.

03:41PM ttidwell: I have many plans up my sleeves for how we could go about "disarming" IdelTech and the DOD from TOBI, but I am looking for people to prove their trustworthiness to me, like Rose, before I proceed.
03:41PM lboomer: You said yourself that the Boys were working night and day to contain Tobi. Obviously they dont want a renegade computer any more than you do.
03:44PM ttidwell: All they are trying to do is prevent it from breaking any laws - if that came back on the DOD, there would be a huge public outcry. They are just trying to reign him in enough so that he doesn't cross too many lines. Like the occasion when they were in college and it hacked into a government computer when they were testing it.
03:44PM ttidwell: And anyhow, imagine that if they are doing that now, how powerful it'll be when it's in the truly public domain and can learn at a much faster rate.
03:44PM lboomer: If we were to join you, what would you expect us to do?
03:46PM ttidwell: Well the first thing would be to get information on the DOD visit. Gather intelligence on their security systems - hardware, software, guards, door codes etc. Although I am not interested in being involved with anyone who has not formally quite their employment with IdelTech.
03:47PM ttidwell: Beyond that, furthering the cause - making people aware of the privacy issues at stake.
03:47PM bshaw: how many people to do you need to be effective?
03:47PM ttidwell: Assisting with the demonstration would be possible, if anyone lives in the area
03:48PM ttidwell: As many as possible! Most of my supporters are currently based in Amboy, but we are looking to broaden our horizons.

Or when you forget to extend you rdriving license and had to pick up your son from school.

I thought I would repost this section of the Post-Pregame chat we had with Nash yesterday (in case someone didn't want to go through the entire thing). Many of us wondered if the beginning of this chat with Thad, where it appears that Thad is giving the coded message to tobibot, was intentional or just that the PMs didn't realize people joining a room in Intellim chat can see text from before they entered. Here was the response from our illustrious game creator.

Obviously this means that we should wonder about this entire incident. From this one of four possibilities exists.

1. TOBI is self aware, and is working with Thad. (Personally I find this unlikely, because; why TOBI be working with someone who wants to have him shut down, and why would TOBI have needed Thad to create a coded message for him?)

2. Thad has someone inside Ideltech who pretended to be TOBI. (Again unsure on this one since they are supposedly not hooked up at the new facilities yet.)

3. Thad has an outside linkup to the Ideltech computer systems, and had someone in his organization using it to pose as TOBI.

4. Thad setup the e-mail and Intellim account while working at Ideltech, knowing it could easily be accessed externally, and again had a colleague elsewhere accessing it under the guise of TOBI.

Also, if the addressed used for the tobibot account was set up by Thad (without anyone's knowledge), we might want to pursue getting into the box.

From what Tobibot says it sure doesn't sound like a machine, sounds more like a person to me.

I think I like the scenarios where the TOBI we saw was not the real TOBI, but someone Thad knows pretending to be TOBI. Did Thad think that by having TOBI threaten us would make more of us join his crusade?
