#Timeout - A place for discussions

#Timeout is the channel that's geared to specifically planned chats with guest speakers and round table discussions regarding all aspects of ARG.

I'm looking for people who would like to step forward and speak about a specific topic in the ARG universe. It can be more of a lecture, presenting points and opinions to be discussed, or subjects to be talked about in a round table environment with others who have definitive alternate opinions regarding said subjects.

ARGs are built for players to play together. To dig through, hypothosize about, interact with, etc. Why shouldn't the people who wish to put ARGs together be able to learn from discussions such as these? The more we discuss and talk the more options, ideas, etc can come about.

I'm not suggesting these discussions and lectures be for only PMs. Anyone is welcome to come and join in the discussions.

Now, who's got ideas for subjects and guest speakers?
If possible please try to fit one of two categories for me. For now....

1. Speakers who have a topic you are dying to address.
2. Topics you would like to see addressed.

LC

ps. I'll leave this thread open for a couple of days for suggestions and then go to work lining up speakers and discussions. Please refrain from having actual debates in this thread regarding speakers or subjects suggested.

Well, I'll post the topic idea I had although I don't know who could be the guest speaker.

"How real is too real?"

I vote for Jane McGonigal to address this. Quick, someone go "volunteer" her.

I'm going to beat my dead horse again....

The topic I would like to see addressed is Harrassment. What actions should players, PM and/or the community take to keep harrassment to a minimum. As the number of players, PM's and games increase so will the number of trolls, etc. I have known other groups where members were lost due to harrassment that was not addressed, and in one case, where it was adressed but the member was still lost because the harrassment escalated into stalking. I'm not saying it will here, but isn't it better to look at the issue before it becomes a real problem?

How about a writer?

There is an outside to good to almost certain chance I could convince one of a couple people I know who are professional writers to chat with us. The topic could be about plot, characters or whatever people are interested in discusssing. I find the writing is essential to the story of any ARG as the narrative is told largely through words.

But we need a very focused topic, a flexible time frame and an understanding that at least two of the people I have in mind had to rely on me to help them buy tickets online...that is, they are not computer or tech people so if that is what you really need then we should look elsewhere.

Note: of course, we have many good writers in-house already so an outside person may be superflous. Are people interested in this topic at all?
