[UPDATE] IMDB & Wiki change title to "CLOVERFIELD" IMDB and Wikipedia are, of course, peer-review sites, but just thought I'd pass along that both are, as of an hour or two ago, *officially* changing the working title from "Untitled JJ Abrams Project" to "Cloverfield."
So they seem pretty sure about it.
Me? Ehhhh...not so much.

Both of these are fueled by user content and public response. Until the studio comes out and publically refers to the movie as such, I ain't buyin' it.

I agree, Nighthawk.
That would be TOO simple.
I would believe it by hearing it from JJ himself.

I'm willing to bet money this isn't called Cloverfield -although if it is, it is such a terrible title that I can see why they omitted it from the trailer and went with 1-18-08.

I refuse to believe it's "Cloverfield". Why? That title doesn't mean anything.
The movie's title should be associated with the movie's content. The only reason "Cloverfield" was chosen in the first place is because of a street in Santa Monica; what does that have to do with a monster in New York City?

Looking at the wiki article, the opening sentence reads:
Quote:
Cloverfield is the reported code name[2]
wikipedia isn't saying it is the official name, but maybe that is what is meant by "working title"?

Check the edit history. I think it was set that way but the edits pushed it back to just being a working title.
There was a lot of stupid edits going on yesterday, based on what I was seeing in the edit history.

Another very popular speculation of the film is that it is a film based on the "Rampage" video games. There are several clues that support this. "Slusho" is a very important part of the marketing campaign for the film. In the Rampage games when a human drinks "Slusho" they turn into a giant monster. On the film's viral marketing site, www. slusho.jp, the "creator" of Slusho writes about making the drink and now, whenever they drink it, they become "a giant whale".
Wow... Are people really pushing that theory?

I hope we can please leave discussion over wiki edits to wikipedia. The talk pages are wonderful for that purpose! What wikipedia says about this film is up to wikipedia. And good luck to them.
Thanks.

JJ is not longer listed as the Producer?

I've said this before but I'll say again:
Something is wacky w/ IMDB and this movie. They're supposedly peer reviewed, but they've had wrong info up for ages re: the casting. I've personally tried to edit the page and for whatever reason it didn't take. I think others on this forum have tried as well, but it STILL has the wrong info about the cast up there. I don't know enough about how IMDB works to know if that's normal, but that strikes me as odd, particularly when every fan of this movie should know character names by now and it surely should've been corrected. Any ideas?

It's having no obvious explanation doesn't exclude it as a possibility either.
Accepting for the moment that that C.H.U.D. guy's trailer synopsis was of a real trailer, he did mention that at one point there was a caption which mentioned that a zone that was located in what was once Central Park had been designated as "Cloverfield", after watching six years worth of news of Iraq war, we've been treated to quite the collection of odd and unusual mission/combat/project titles which The Daily Show has been gleefully parodying for some time.
Not that I believe the C.H.U.D. review, mind you, but an absense of information now doesn't mean there won't be something revealed later on in the marketing or through the film itself.
Polar Bear, sadly it seems people are still clinging to that nonsense even this long into things.

July 5th 2007 was the date of the trailer, no? So I guess this is someone "squatting" on a URL as soon as they found out the "cover name" -- or whatever its called -- "Cloverfield," for the movie?
But trying to be mysterious and clever by quoting the Bible. "In Hoc Signo Vinces" means "In this sign you will conquer."
Which makes me further doubt its relevance.
