 [POLL] Series?

At the comicon presentation, he said "we need our own monster" after being inspired by Godzilla. Could that mean we might get a series out of this, and after that they might actually get a clue on how to run an ARG?

I don't think we are ever going to get a "game".

Do you think these myspace characters are going to tell you anything? No. No, they will not. We are just getting to know these people. I would guess soon Rob will post a blog about his new job, and then another person will post about the secret party etc...their last posts ever being 1-17-08/1-18-08.

If you mean -- will this movie turn into such a blockbuster that it'll launch a franchise? HIGHLY unlikely, on either count. This movie is being released in the dead of winter -- and I DO mean "dead." Good or not, the flick will be lucky to generate even $25-30 million on opening weekend...and it's a safe bet to fall FAAAAAR short of that mark.

If you mean -- will JJ keep the semi-ARG open after the movie's release? Possibly...the movie will probably be just as baffling AFTER we watch it, so there's still room to keep the speculative discussion going after 1/18/08.

I personally think they're at least toying with the option of a series, that seems like an implication of JJA's statement that he's trying to make this the American Godzilla. IMO, there's a pretty low standard for making sequels of horror movies & I think they kept the budget reasonably low on this one so (unlike, say, the most recent Godzilla movie) so that they could still make some money off it, even if it blows. Unless its a complete stinker, I think all this pre-hype alone would be enough to break even.

The release time isn't great, but I'm guessing the competition will be pretty slim, so that's good. Also, I wonder if Paramount had a hand in deciding this - I mean a producer comes & says he wants to make a movie but he's not going to tell anyone the name until, like, the day before - I'm sure the suits freaked out and were like, fine, you can do it because we want you for Star Trek, but they buried it in Jan just in case.

I think if the movie is even mildly successful/profitable we will be looking at a sequel. I think it's a novel movie business model, low budget, low advertising cost and no name actors. So, if successful what's to stop JJ and company from doing it again? Also there are so many ARG sites out there that haven't been used to the full potential (the links at Tagruato for example) and could be developed more for a sequel. I think it's way to soon to dismiss a possibility of a sequel.

If the movie is successful then the next budget will be quiet a bit higher. Actors will want more money, the studio will expect more returns and so will the public. I think it would be great to have a trilogy but who knows?

won't be any new series anytime soon anyways, with the writer's strike and all. Except for new Survivor and such.

Well, methinks there won't specifically be a sequal, but a spin-off. It might not even be about a monster, but it probably would be in the same universe. Like Bold Futura, YMR, ParafFUN!, etc., etc. Though a sequel would be pretty cool, and this time they actually use a lion. Laughing Or it could just be the aftermath of the monster attack, or it could just be the descendants of the Slusho 7, fighting off the monster or a spawn of it. Any of those would be OK. Razz

EDIT: for spelling =P
