[META][SPEC] Trailer #2 before early beowulf screenings? comingsoon.net reporting that beowulf will be in limited release on weds the 15th. don't know if the 1-18-08 trailer will make iit to the internets before friday but hopefully it will at least be confirmed whether or not it will be attatched to beowulf, i know i'd be pissed if i went to see it on friday to find out no new trailer! ...and ya never know these days could be some kid with a camera in one of those theaters on the 15th...

I read Beowulf about 20 years ago and I'm going to wait until the DVD is sitting at my local Blockbuster instead of spending money on it at the theater. As for the trailer, common sense is telling me it'll be available online around 0.03 seconds after it's seen in the theaters. That'll work fine for me.

Uh, except that the 15th is a Thursday.

Yeah. That confused me.
Helo, come on, it's friggin' Beowulf . What more could ya ask for? Go see it, bring some friends. It'll be great.

I think Beowulf will be pretty cool.
I like that they are actually bothering to cover the larger story than just Beowulf slaying Grendel. As to those decrying it's video-realistic animation nature, it's not like it'd be all that easy to do some of the things in the movie without being computer generated. Instead of adding CGI to an otherwise very expensive production they opted to make it all possible and easier to blend by animating it all - so much the better. I'd actually contemplated how you could possibly make the story into a movie as I was reading the more original translation. It goes off on such tangents that writing a decent screenplay would be hard enough, and as with such sagas it becomes outrageous and surreal at points so that the slightly surreal appearance of the animation should suit it fairly well.
Anybody remember 13th Warrior?
That's what you get when you try to turn a saga type story into a live action movie. Not exactly ideal.

I have read Beowulf at least 30 times in my life, as I was an English major in college and it's a favorite among lit professors for its symbolism and other literary devices...
I've also done about 10 papers on Beowulf.

I saw an interview with the writers/creators or someone on G4's Attack of the Show.
It was a neat interview. They said they wrote the screenplay specifically for 3D back in something like 1997. I thought this was just going to be a regular animated movie, but apparently it's only released in IMAX 3D and the regular movie theater's digital 3D.
I haven't really bothered to read up on this movie so forgive me if this is all common knowledge.

the viral marketing for 1-18-08 is so good it can even make people watch other movies that got nothing to do with the actual film they want to see. now thats impressive hahaha.
i bet some geeks wud still go n see snakes on a plane 2 if there were rumors of a new 1-18-08 trailer before it.

Can't tell you whether the movie'll be any good, but Beowulf has a solid pedigree in place for its script (Neil Gaiman and Roger Avery), and for that primary reason, I'll go see it. I hate Zemeckis and his current CGI fetish, but the plot might actually work.
