isn't it ironic....dontcha think? So the Cloverfield ARG/viral campaign whatever it is (or should I say, "was") is ultimately derailed around two months prior to release date....
...by a writers' strike.
Considering that the guys/girls who write for jamielovesteddy and slusho and tagruato and all the MSPs and all other websites are part of the WGA, then it's safe to say that the campaign has officially gone dark.
And JJ's hands are tied, because he can't push back the release date, since 1/18/08 is such an integral part of whatever this movie is all about.
So, his options:
go ahead and release it without any further viral "clues" or trailers, and have it open without ANY fanfare on 1/18/08 as planned; or
push the release date back until the WGA strike is over, in which case the date "1/18/08" suddenly becomes meaningless and nonessential to the story, and further pisses off an already impatient fanbase; or
crosses the picket line and hires scabs to finish up the viral campaign as planned, only to piss off the WGA and pretty much ensure that "Lost," "Trek" and everything else in his future is permanently blacklisted by Hollywood.
Poor JJ.
The SS Cloverfield has officially struck the iceberg.

Well, we don't really know that's the case. It's quite possible that the "ARG" is being run by a third-party marketing company, who wouldn't be affected at all by the strike.
Just when I was starting to give up hope because of the strike, we got new Happy Talk... so we know someone is still working on it.

I very much doubt that they would fully employ writers for, what, a few short passages a week, even less at the mo?
Most likely its run by a third party.
plus, remember, come monday, we could all be analyzing a whole new trailer!
*crosses everything*

While I agree that this was heartening, unfortunately no writers were needed for this update so it could very well still be affected by the strike. Maybe they just did that because it was the only thing they *could* do given the strike constraints.

I'm hoping this is the case too...or at least most of the material is finished and it's following a timeline. I think we'll know for sure by Dec 9 (when Jamie is supposed to open her gift) whether or not this is continuing. Wasn't there a similar dry spell between the end of July until the Jamie/Teddy website was found in early Sept? During that time there were a couple of minor things (i.e. roar added to 1-18-08.com and Happy Talk, but nothing else.
If the WGA strike has affected this ARG/E then J.J. Abrams/Bad Robot/Paramount or whoever needs to make some type of announcement to indicate it is indeed over. Maybe an e-mail to AICN like he did back in July when everyone thought Ethan Haas was part of the movie.
If it is over, then I would expect Paramount to quickly shift to the traditional means of marketing this movie with trailers, TV ads, press junkets, production stills, cast interviews, etc, etc.
I had said in a couple of my previous posts in other topics I thought it would be pretty dead for a while with no updates until Beowulf was released and then the Marketing would kick into high gear ( http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20379&start=1350 ). So far, I'm right about the no update part...we'll see about the rest.

I guess J.J. (I know, not him directly) made his announcement with the J&T vid #4 today...GAME (still) ON!
I swear TPTB must have read my posts and decided to release the J&T vid early just to screw with me!

Yeah, while people write for all sorts of media, this is a strike made by the WGA which covers film and TV. WGA members might write other things (such as Comic Books or Magazine articles) but seeing as the WGA does not watch over these, the strike does not affect them. Now I don't know how many WGA guys and gals work on (let alone write) marketing related things like ARGs, but chances are (fortunately or unfortunately) that this is totally off their radar.....I think.

the problem is weither they made the video for Dec 9th before the strike our best bet for information that we are going to get is the trailer from BEOWOLF

I don't think the folks leading the whole campaign are writers. I think they're marketing folks. Now I must stop writing... I'm on strike.
