Except if it includes the 3 and 7 in the sequence for the proper fib sequence, it would be

3 = 033617077653
7 = 077653033617

and the position of the inner 3 and 7 (with 4 digits between 7->3 and 6 digits between 3->7) means that only the 7 sequence 'fits'.

Remember that it's a rotation.

for the 3 sequence, the 4 digits between 7->3 are 6530 and the six digits between 3->7 are 361707

lockstone code

You guys know that the symbols on the stone represent r-type ships too, right?
it looks like Eclipse, Future World, Leo, Claw Claw, Midnight Eye, Amphibian, Albatross

You could probably combine everything and come up with a solution just like the postcard message

Sorry if this was an obviously lame post. I just happened across you guys while surfing the web and it caught my attention.

actually, i came across the exilearchive website by a different route than you guys. i did a search of the terms "Eros tutelary abscond fury esplanade" and came up with the wikipedia article for the old Exile game and noticed that the map from there is depicted on the postcards.

Jedditor's new blog post led to a map of the civilization; just query 'map.'

This led me to query Pallantar, which led to an updated blogs page:

the puzzles

I'm very new to all this, and I've spent some time going through all the stuff everyone has been doing, so I don't think this is a restate. Because the Lockstone mentions:
Quote:
Sending listeners spinning in rings
maybe the "whisper" puzzle can't be solved until you solve the Lockstone one....just a thought.

And about the "landing" I remember reading in the blogs about them just "appearing" there...so maybe it's a Mage thing, and not a spaceship thing...

re:[puzzle] square0
image position, magic square, energy & physics

"The Puzzle of the Week" on argnetcast brought my attention to this thread. Smile
I've been studying square0 and have some questions and observations.

We assume that the first line of images are 1 4 9 2 , Columbo, sale, ocean, blue. It's clear that the music from "A Chorus Line" would be "One", but how does fluoride = 4, Joule = 9, and e= 2? Could it be that that they signify other numbers instead?

Since there are ten squares (not counting Columbo, sale, ocean and blue), I'm guessing that one of those squares stands for zero; most likely it's Kelvin's absolute zero.
So if the lower, right hand, corner square is zero, and the 1 square is at the upper left; then the current positions don't fit the magic square....

That might suggest that the squares need to be moved around, to end up in the position of the magic square, once we figure out which number each image represents. Then, once in the proper position, if each image also stands for a letter, there may be more ciphering to be done using the number string along the edges. I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud.

Energy & Physics:
Another thought, when one of the characters talked about energy, was that a clue? It got me thinking about physics and how many of the images could represent concepts in that field.

Music/sound or wave, fluoride/chemical, Joule/work, e/constant(?), Bohr model/ magnetic, clock/time, arms up in the air/motion(?), the V lady/ space(?), Kelvin/temperature.
I haven't come up with anything for the chess king, but I'm still working on that. Anyway, can those be converted to numbers? Are the laws of physics numbered?

Just throwing out some ideas, if it's trout worthy... grill it up, please. Smile

wheeee, physics! I happen to be taking Conceptual Physics right now
the laws of physics? I'm not sure what laws you could be referring to other than Newton's laws. of course, there are a bunch of other principles that I could name as well, but here are Newton's laws:

1) An object in motion stays in motion/ an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon
2) Acceleration=force divided by mass
3) Every action has an equal but opposite reaction

Well, e (the constant) equals 2-point-something, so that's where that came from (I think).

As for the others... Could 4 have something to do with Flouride's atomic number or something else on the periodic table?

As for Joule... What's the conversion factor for Joules and (whatever the other energy thing is)? Could that be it?

Atomic number for fluorine is 9
While Joule is a measure of energy, a Newton is a measure of Force (four?)

yeah, I know. NO help. Razz

I'm getting vibes of Mass Effect here...

The map accurate?

EDIT: Yeah, newton is a measure of weight.

Whee, physics! That's what I got my degree in. I was meaning to look into this ARG but haven't had time, and then it kinda slid down the list... I guess now I know why, if the puzzles are so hard.

Anyway I'll make a go at catching up over the holiday (although I'm also going to reading tomes worth of stuff for Bones), but FWIW: a Joule = one Newton * meter. A Newton = one kg * m per square second. I looked over the last couple pages but I'm not sure what puzzle this refers to, so trout away. Wink

Does Mass Effect have sciency goodness too? If so I may have to take a look (NO! Too many ARGs... gah...)

Evilbrain, IM(V)HO I think you are right so much I'm going to quote you.

I'm going to put this into text form for future reference, with the pics and rot-s substituted in with the r-type names in sets of brakets to represent the area of each picture.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The numbers down the center are a version of the fibbonoci (sp) sequence where you add the numbers up and keep only the final digit for the next term. I've substituted the (hopefully correct) numbers in there.

I think that spoilering the next bit would ruin it, so I'm giving you a few lines warning.
.
..
...
....
.....
Code:

  mokushi kushimo, 1 + ragnarok + 1
          Kallomar 3 + {eclipse} - 2      {world}
        Ridditum's 4 + {_______} {future} {_____}
          lectures 7 + { leo    }
    sent listeners 1 + {        } strike bomber
spinning in rings. 8 + {        } {claw claw} {midnight}{eye}
          What did 9 + {________} {_________} {        }{___} + 1
      old Kallomar 7 + Andromalius + 1        {________}
    unhesitatingly 6 + {amphibian}
        value more 3 + {_________} sunday strike
       highly than 9 + {albatross}
 all other things? 2 + {_________} tropical angel - 2

substituting the r-type ships' numbers, just guessing at alignment
Code:

  mokushi kushimo, 14
          Kallomar 49
        Ridditum's 48
          lectures 23
    sent listeners 12
spinning in rings. 103
          What did 47
      old Kallomar 50
    unhesitatingly 87
        value more 13
       highly than 52
 all other things? 46

now, the right sides sound like crossword clues, but I don't feel like working them out right now, so someone else can take a look at it.

oh, and if any of this is trout, lay off me, I just read the entire thread and might have missed some bits.
edit: clarification, I was in a bit of a hurry to get this off.

ya ye did miss some things (trout, at east), even just last page Wink
(R-type connection has been known for some time, for example)
But, it's always good to have more views of the same info - something else might pop out.
so keep brainstorming. the puzzles are annoying. Confused

mreh, I somehow skipped page 19. Which, as is fitting, had all the analysis about the lockstone Cursing
also, how did I not read the left side as a single sentence? *more furious mumbling*

Kallomar Ridditum's lectures sent listeners spinning in rings.
What did old Kallomar unhesitatingly value more highly than all other things?
14 49 48 23 12 103 47 50 87 13 52 46.
