[SPEC] Fron Grid of the PS Website, the missing piece

For fun after the keyboard bit last night, was looking into the front page for some clues. Might be one; might be an inconsistancy, another interesting traiil.

The Project Syzygy website fron is composed of several smaller pictures, 11 in all. Their names are shown in the directory that the link was shown previously. The pieces are arrangd as 7 columns and 5 rows down. The peices are all named according to their position, such as r2_c1, r5_67 and so on.

In the directory is one which is not accounted for, r2_c2_f2. (the F2 refers to clickable link). That picture has the "we would love to hear from YOU". A color pallete change in photoshop shows a LOT of colors being used in there, 4 small dots on the far right that are nowhere else, they show up if you mess with the second pallete. Maybe a piece or something called R4_C2_F2?

I'm not sure that I'm understanding you correctly, but all the rx_cy gifs in the /images directory are contained on the index page, not within the flash or the corresponding html pages. Some of them are empty and act like spacers (for example, r2_c1), while others actually have stuff (like r5_c2, which tells you to go get the Flash player).

I wish there was a puzzle there, but I don't think that's it Sad

Can't we please pleeeeeeease have a puzzle? 2oc4o was just so much FUN Mr. Green

yuppers, its the front page, but there is one thing, the "we'd love to hear from you" tile does not show up on the main page or flash or html pages, so methinks there may be something of interesting, because I dont think they would leave an old picture revision in there as a mistake.

Oh, I'm sorry - I see what you mean. Is it this? I think this is left over from another version of the pop-up page that never got uploaded (at least I didn't see it get uploaded)... don't know why they didn't take them out...

That's the one, and I just don't see it as a leftover. Still trying to figure out how to get into the irc chat, would be interesting to ask about that one...

To go to chat, go here, and choose syzygy from the drop-down menu.

As far as that picture - my guess still is that it was left over. The actual html page is here: http://www.projectsyzygy.com/syzpage2.htm (also ...3.htm). You can see that neither one uses it (the links use maps); I did see another page version there around the beginning of March that they promptly took out, which makes me think that these gifs - syzpage1btm_r2_c2[_f2].gif and syzpage1btm_r2_c3.gif - they just forgot to take out...

gah... next time, I should just log in. Actually, I have no idea why they kept any of the syzpage1btm gifs there... those went up after we were already checking the images directory, but I don't think I ever saw them used Confused

Ah well, it seemed a good idea at the time. Gotta have something to tease the brain, as if my own projects in life weren';t enough....

It's my guess that we've pretty much gone through all of the puzzles that are out there as of now... The Hons were all over people, goading and giving hints, when there were unsolved puzzles out there before. I would be surprised if there are any left (right now at least).

The only two things we don't really have a full explanation of are the picture in the corner (with the P) and the white 'S' over "web."

And speaking of that S. It's interesting that, when zoomed in, it's still perfect. There's no distortion at all. It was clearly added on top of the entire picture, after the rest of the image was complete.

Might be in postscript or a different format than the regular graphic format being used.

Was the 's' from the flash version of the page?

If so, then the letter was put in as a vector graphic, which is how Flash stores and redraws non bitmap graphics.

Because it's just the mathematical calculations on how to draw the 's', there is no loss of quality no matter how zoomed in or out you are to it.

So that means the 's' was definitely added after the fact, when the pictures were already made for the page.

Yeah, it was in the flash version only. Which is also sort of strange. I could be wrong, but I would expect that anything significant would be included in both. Oh well, they either put it there accidently or are sticking it to people withouth flash.

Oh well...

I agree. I think we've found everything. Let's stop chasing our own tails over minor details that are meaningless.

Agreed. Sorry for getting so wierd on the details here. There will be plenty of opps to take care of that come next year Smile (and at work, I'm known for going off on wierd tangents all my own, so its a character trait or flaw, depending on your point of view. am going to calm down to it all)

Diandra: can these useless topics be cut out for the sake of keeping it clear until the fireworks begin? Thanks!

We try not to edit/remove things unless they become far too unruly to deal with. You can never really seperate the wheat from the chaff in these types of games.
