[SPEC]Possible Inspiration For Cloverfield?
And "Overnight" Coincidence?

Don't know if this has been posted or discussed or not...but, the ARG is slow, the news is slow, and I'm biding my time until tomorrow to learn the secrets of the new trailer.

So...Bored, I went on YouTube, and searched "Overnight". I found this.

It's eerily familiar, don't you think? Some of you older members might remember this news program; I, for one, do not. I think this could be where J.J. Abrams got his idea for a movie like this..or not. I'm all out of ideas here, but it seems too specific to ignore...it was made in '82, and it features elements of Cloverfield, such as the SOL being shown and the beginning dialogue. Strange...

By the way, I'm sorry for the trout in my previous post. Please forgive me and my number games. I just like number games, y' know? Very Happy

Exclamation EDIT:Click the link to see the video. the vid was removed from the post! Exclamation

EDIT EDIT:Just so everyone knows "Overnight" was thought to be a possible title in a previous post, and.... no one has proved it to be incorrect. It had pretty good supporting facts.

Ugh... it's getting harder and harder to tell who's a troll and who is not.

Scenario 1: you are serious --->

The video you posted is about an overnight CNN report. This is real. It is not a movie. It has absolutely nothing to do with Abrams or a monster. It's just footage of New York for a late night news cast. Do not be such a fool as to mix up these things.

The beginning montage is about New York. Lots of news stations report in New York. It's not eerily like the movie either. The only thing it features is a picture of the statue of liberty and the fact that it was aired during the night. That is not strange. As for being a trout, please refrain from doing that any longer.

THIS MOVIE WAS NOT INSPIRED BY A CNN REPORT WHICH AIRED LATER THAN USUAL DUE TO CONFLICTING SCHEDULES.

Scenario 2: you're a troll --->
Get off the forums

------

Lastly, if you're offended by anything I said, then perhaps you should review your own posts. I agree there has been little recent news, but being so desperate as to trying to link it to a CNN broadcast in the 90s which showed 2 seconds of the statue of liberty as part of it's opening montage of New York, is just...

Ugh.

Sorry.

PM me if you want me to edit this.

Okay, listen. I am tired of everyone misunderstanding me and insulting me over these forums. You want to talk to me about trouting and trolling? (Which I wasn't, by the way.) I was just trying to offer some sort of point and it failed. The "not Godzilla", "deep sea", and "Pacific Ocean" discussion is what caught my interest, not so much the SOL. People on these forums have had less correlation than that before, and their topic at least gets discussed somewhat. That's the second time that I've done this and someone has always insulted my intelligence. I don't claim to be a genius like some of you other master ARG players, but I've heard more idiotic things on this forum that people didn't even bash. You want proof? Right now, on the Jamie/Teddy video 4 forum, your colleagues are discussing the lightswitch in Jamie's bedroom. I mean come on. Give me a break. At least I cited a video, and I definitely didn't deserve to be talked to like that. I'm bored, you're bored, and the trailer comes out tomorrow, so let's all just be happy that we might find some answers then, and grateful that Abrams has bestowed upon us this wonderful, fun ARG-like thing. And be nice to each other, all right? Very Happy

Yikes. I know I've been dry and sarcastic sometimes, but no offense, Kraker, you're bordering on harsh there. I know I"m no huge contributor of this forum, I spend most of my time reading all the speculation flying around; and yes, the occasional incomprehensible post will make me arch my brow and roll my eyes, but I try to be somewhat subtle about it.

But: "Get off the forums..."

Ouch. Pretty abrasive.

You have a point with those scrutinizing a light-switch, and I do realize this forum has been going slowly, but it would personally tick me off more for someone to post something quite obviously OOG for all matters concerned rather to have someone scrutinize something that is part of an IG movie, no matter how unlikely it is to have relevance.

But you're right. I'm sorry. I'll hold off on flaming till tomorrow where hopefully I'll be able to get a catch at the trailer. Thank god for these tickets.

I also will not comment on the far more immature thread on the front page made by bloopbloop.

No, that's assuming he's a troll. If he were a troll like bloopbloop, who just posted a very immature thread, yes, I would ask him to get off the forums.

I have apologized though, and yes, there are far worse things on these forums and I guess I just found this first :-\

My apologies.

As long as we're talking about bloopbloop, let me just remind you guys this; don't reply to that thread. If it gets a reply, it has to stay. If no-one replies, the admins can delete it.

It's good of you to apologise Kraker, I think you were a bit harsh, but it is understandable when there is some troll posting (though like rose I think that's in the tiny minority).

Feef, if you post something that's speculative (that lots of threads are with our current lack of updates) you can tag your thread with [SPEC] in the title to let everyone know what the contents are and it helps to prevent misinterpretation of your intentions. Other useful tags can be found in Giskard's post at the top of the sub-forum here.

I thought the moderators tagged it for you.

Mods will tag things retrospectively to help keep things tidy, but the person who can best define their own post is the poster. It's great if people do it themselves. Cheers.

In complete fairness, details like that are usually mentioned to be of little importance and are merely observation. Still, it doesn't hurt to make note considering it's an in game video.

And we're not discussing the actual lightswitch, but the object above it. Smile

That being the rumoured trailer before Beowulf?

That said, and I wish I didn't sound as much of an ass as I do by saying this, but it's not always a great thing to start a topic just because you're bored.

Thankfully though you didn't post something along the lines of "I'm bored, entertain me" which a member of another forum I'm on did post. That topic was most certainly a waste of space. Smile

Well, it can't really be proved incorrect, at least until the real title comes out -- but I'd say the "evidence" is circumstantial, at best.

The title of "Overnight" has been discussed here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20426

I'm not sure if that YouTube video has been mentioned here at Unfiction before... but I have had it up on my blog since August:
