Yeah, nothing fancy.

You left out that the chimney acting as a shade on the lamp on Jamie's left is gone, exposing a lightbulb. So we know, it's not an oil lamp.

Up until now I'd assumed it was a parafin lamp as I hadn't clearly seen the bulb due to the chimney glass and as we'd never seen it illuminated. I bet it's one of those oil lamps that's either been converted to electric, or was made to look like it had once used oil to keep the whole 'old timey' feel.

Guess the prop guys managed to break the chimney glass before the filmed the 4th video.

i think we can safely assume that most, if not all, the ppl that added the glass helmets myspace page as a friend are aware of this video and 1-18-08... i just think its so crazy how it works... very cool stuff...

One of the friends has the Cloverfield poster as their icon
I still vote out of game

One of the "friends" has a Cloverfield poster as their "icon," that seems definitely out of game to me, also the fact the band page didn't exist until after the video was found.

I've not seen it espoused, but couldn't someone just have "ripped off" the bad music and assembled some lyrics?

I know some talented and un-talented musicians capable of such.

Very Happy

Well, all signs seem to point to theglasshelmets myspace page as being OOG, EXCEPT for the song. For it to be OOG, there had to be someone who:

A) Follows the online "experience" for this movie pretty closely, close enough to have seen the latest Jamie video VERY soon after it was posted.
B) Just happened to have recognized the obscure death metal song to which she stripped, and
C) Been inclined to create and launch a gamejack myspace page very shortly after A&B above, and then also register a corresponding web domain.

I'm not saying the above scenario is impossible, but statistically, it seems improbable. I guess time will tell.

St. Johns

Three hits for St. John, in Scott-sdale Arizona. A Boutique, and two churches. Could have just been using a local point of reference as filler for the name. Someone setting up the site would need some herring-like names to lend it credence.

Just following up on the comments about the song. I'm thinking that either they are unrelated but legit, or they stole the song. I was at first convinced that they could have just hurriedly recorded an approximate version of the song and then just posted it in the time given, but now I doubt it. Logistically, it'd be a nightmare to do so. If one person was responsible for recording the entire thing, they'd have to first find out about the vid, and then learn all the parts before recording it. The drums do not sound synthesized, as whoever's playing them has a bit of trouble keeping time. Recording drums would have to take place in a studio, or this guy would have to have his own studio. Even given the short length of the song, it'd take one guy maybe a couple of days to pull this off correctly. Not the 5 or 6 hours between the vid being found and the MySpace going up. Hell, I use synthesized drums, and recording anything for me takes like a week. If a preexisting band decided to do this, they'd all have to be into Cloverfield, and they'd all have to be pretty dedicated. Even then, a couple of hours is a bit short, and the double tracking between left and right guitar channels is pretty tight, so they'd have to have practiced some. Very unlikely.

So I think that it's possible that a little while ago, some amateur Death Metal band, who were fan's of J.J. Abrams, took themselves way too seriously and decided to send him a demo tape. He thought it was kind of funny, and decided that it might be worth using later on. Along comes Jaimie's striptease video, and a golden opportunity to use it. Either that or the music on MySpace is stolen, as I think it's unlikely the band would have created their MySpace after the video's release. They'd have to be notified that their music would be used beforehand, so they would have had plenty of time to create a MySpace page ahead of time.

Another explanation for this could be that the music is by someone who is connected to the movie, and has no real musical aspirations, career-wise. They just happened to make this a while ago, moved on to working on movies, and then they volunteer for this song to be used on the video. Someone then stumbles across the song and then posts it on MySpace.

So I'm thinking that the song is most definitely OOG (as in has no impact, regardless of whether it's real or not).

As a side note, why does no one seem to think that Teddy's part of some Watchmen-style plot anymore? It'd fit in with the whole "saving the world" aspect, and the deviousness of it would make Teddy less one-dimensional.

A) At this point, there are MORE gamejacks than real info, so I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised. Obviously, the person visits Unfiction to get the latest and greatest news... Smile Checking this thread, there's a good 4 hours between finding the new video, and someone finding the myspace page.

B) The song Jamie played is not metal! That's where theglasshelmets.com site has it wrong. Jamie says in the video "punk's really hard to strip to". Punk... as in punk rock - not metal, as in heavy metal. AS far as recognizing the song...I don't recognize it, but I'm not surprised someone else might. I'm sure there are plenty of 80s songs that I would recognize that most people here wouldn't know...

C) See A. Also....If this was a real site, it would have been created BEFORE video #4 was released. For example, JamieAndTeddy.com was created 4 DAYS BEFORE Teddy was mentioned on Jamie's myspace. Otherwise, you end up with a BoldFutura.jp situation.

I agree that each of the things that needed to happen could have happened. My point is that the odds of all of them happening together are much lower than any of them individually.

By the way, as I hear it, what Jamie says after her lame dance is "That song's really hard to strip to", not "Punk's really hard to strip to". I would certainly classify that song as metal. The heavily processed and distorted "cookie monster" vocals put it pretty squarely in the death metal genre. Plus, the harmonized guitar melody lines are anathema to the lo-fi punk style of guitar.

I agree that had the site been created prior to the day of the video release it would lend credibility, but the mystery of how the right song is on this page makes it more difficult to dismiss than other gamejack sites in my opinion.

At any rate, whether it's in game or out of game at this point, it doesn't really add anything to our knowledge of the story.

Even though most people think "the cause" is protesting the oil industry there is another possibility. Teddy may have found out something about the DSI like it's addictive properties or that it is made from extremophiles. Whatever, I would go along with the anti-big oil thing but just pointing out it may be the food thing instead.
