[META][SPEC] Projected Profit

Could you imagine the profit this movie is going to make?. The fact that it was budgeted for 30,000,000$ and it could easily surpass that in the first 2 weeks (or even the first week) is amazing.

Edit: Tagged and clarified. -SpaceBass

I wonder how big the expectation really is. Does any one know if there's any kind of stat about this? It's hard to know from youtube viws, since there are many videos, most of them crap with very few views. And the forums are not a good indicator (Compared to, say, LG15, this has been a quiet and peaceful event).

I can't know from people around here, as we didn't even get the teaser, so no ones knows this exist, but how about everyone else? Do you know a lot of people waiting for the movie (besides the ones who post here)

One reason that the film was given a small budget (this is just my theory) is that Paramount wanted to crank out a film or two with the sole purpose of making a few bucks because they knew a writer strike was looming. I am a member of Ken Tarallo's forum. He is a special effects guy who has worked on many many movies. (He is the guy who created the original mold for Jason's Hockey mask)

About six months ago, we were talking on his boards about the large amount of "Popcorn" movies that are coming out. Mostly around Christmas time. At that time he told us that the Writers Guild's contract was running out and that there will be a strike and the studios wanted to crank out alot of films this year because they may have a profit lull next year.

It's possible that Paramount was like "Ok JJ you got your movie, people will go see a Monster movie. But we are only giving you 30 mil in hopes of having a large profit margin"

So it makes sense to me to make a movie that will grab people's attention and try to make it as cost effective as possible. Im sure JJ Abrams helped to sell this movie by mentioning he could save money in marketing by having a viral campaign.

Plus Im sure Paramount is thinking, if it works then it would be easy to make sequels. All you need is destruction and a monster and you have yourself a film.

So I dont think it's weird at all that this movie was made on a 30 mil budget. Seems to me that Paramount just wanted to make an investment to help with a possible fallout from the writer's strike...

On the same forum that I first learned about the strike, We were also told that studios were stockpiling scripts, that way studios could still make movies once the writers were no longer available to work. Some are films that studios would not normally be interested in, but if there is a strike, people will go see anything if nothing better is available.
