Maybe he's saying 'It's a lost cause", but the last word was cut out by the explosion?

OK, I spent some more time under the headphones on our convenience store scene, this time using the new "brighter" version of the trailer linked from this thread: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22020

The audio seems a little clearer and now what I hear is different:

(monster roar)
Rob, it's back
Rob, I saw it
Rob, Rob, it's alive

Pretty different from my earlier interpretation, I know, but that's what I hear. I realize there's a lot of skepticism on the word "alive", but FWIW that's what it sounds like to me.

I went back to the Quicktime version to compare, and I now hear it similarly there, but with one exception. For the second line, instead of "Rob, I saw it", in that version I hear "I know, I saw it".

I'm thinking maybe the different versions are picking up different parts of the stereo spectrum (or of the 5.1 mix), and as we saw from the breakdown of the audio tracks in the teaser, you can certainly get different pieces of the dialogue depending on which track you listen to. Maybe we'll be able to resolve this after getting the official HD trailer.

I saw the HD trailer twice last night in the theater and both times I could clearly hear him say "its alive"...I would speculate this scene takes place early on in the film and the characters may not know what's going on, who is doing what, maybe they think its some type of weapon system or massive gun? Could be anything, but I'm positive I heard "it's alive".

I thought that's what I heard too last night, but I think we were conditioned to hear "it's alive" after the whole "IT'S A LION" debacle.

Now, I can only hear "It's a loss". I can't tell at all what's being said during the "car" part in the "brighter" version. But I think the line about the car makes sense in that scene.

I think the audio is different because the placement of the camera is in the back of the theater (surround sound channels), where I was seated towards the front (L & R Channels)

I think he says...

"Robby! Robby! Its on!" Referring to the camera, so people will see whats happening?

I dunno, impossible to say without the HD trailer.

was that carrage with the white horse empty?

I actually thought I saw a white body in the carriage (dead or unconscious), with an arm hanging down (she or he appears somewhat upside down) as it strolls along.

Anyone who has seen the larger trailer want to comment?

Edited: Here's a screencap I made of it, if you zoom in, I believe it is clearly the shape of a person.

I have split the surround sound tracks and uploaded them as MP3 files here:

It really sounds like the pixeled out soldier is saying "there's nothing you can do for her now".... as in Marlena? Lilly has her head against the wall and looks pretty upset. Maybe they just saw her inflate/explode/hatch Smile Hard to tell if it's "nothing you can do here now" or "for her now"..it's kinda garbled.

OK... After listening to the center channel, I think you are right about this.

There are a few extra things I heard listening to the channels separately, but not as much as the first trailer.

I'm 100% sure he says "he's alive" after listening to it multiple times through multiple feeds.

[SPEC] Buzzing, or chittering?
I don't think the jury is in on the sound

Rob: Run Run Run away!

I realize this is "He hears, she hears," but to me it sounds like "chittering," like mandibles or something chitinous, you know?

I feel like H.P. Lovecraft.

I hear eldritch chitinious mandibles gibbering and chittering.

Rob says "approximately seven hours ago". We know from the photos and the TV in the teaser that the first roar is heard some time shortly after midnight. That means Rob is recording himself at about 7 am. We know from the promo pics that Rob ends up doing the shooting of himself in that scene, and from the Central Park shoot we know basically that's where the scene takes place. That's of course where the camera is also found. We now have a rough timeline for the movie. With all of that evidence together we can largely put to rest questions of it's characters story taking place over several days.
Incidentally, the pic of Marlena and Lily on 1-18-08 has a timestamp of 12:36 while the TV shows 12:32 in the news report before they go up on the roof. Chances are the time on the camera is a little slow.

This is exactly what i took from this. The soldier does say "theres nothing you can do for her now". and i definitely took Lil's mannerisms as those of someone in shock and sorrow over loss

I think he says "IT'S A LION YOU RETARD!" but gets drowned out by shattering glass.

Actually, he says something, but can't be sure what he says. I don't think he gets to finish the sentence, so we'll never know. I went over it; he says "it's a-" ***CRASH!***

People will hear what the voices in their heads tell them to hear.

What we really need now is someone to stuff the trailer into Premiere and extract those sound channels as was done with the UK trailer.

It depends on what audio channel you listen to. If you listen to the just the center channel, you can definitely hear what he is saying.

You can download just the center channel here: http://www.archive.org/download/CloverfieldTrailer2Audio/trailer2_C.mp3

All the other audio channels are available here: http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/2007/11/cloverfield-trailer-2-audio-analysis.html
