All contact has been strictly through characters. Interesting no?

I prefer it that way. I have noticed how this ARG has gone about avoiding breaking the character-player interaction through blatant PM-sent messages. It always comes via a character, and in the manner in which that character would actually say it, based on their personality.

If the PMs in this start addressing us directly, it's going to take something out of it for me. It would be like watching a move set in medieval times and during a sword fight, camera equipment on the set becomes visible in the scene.

Know what I mean?

Even when I had the face-to-face meeting with the Two of Clubs, he kept it very... distanced. He was still only Jonah/2C to me - I saw nothing that could identify him in a crowd moreso than his face. We truly only discussed the game and a few vague details of our personal lives, still only enough to keep it like I was conversing with a character rather than completely who he was.

It's complicated to explain, and to be honest, the whole thing still feels very, very surreal, like one of those super-vivid dreams you were positive actually happened. You know?

This ARG looks really cool (just saw it 5 minutes ago) and has been the only ARG to catch my attention these past few months because of work. Thanks to Silver Ladder I will now be spending all of my working hours catching up and pulling apart that website and will most likely be fired by Wednesday hah.

Good stuff Very Happy

What do you mean by addressing us directly? Keep in mind that it is not definite that SL is even an ARG in the first place even though it has gained a following within the ARG community. Due to a recent conversation on MySpace as well as previous clues, I suspect they conceived of this whole concept before they found out that things like ARGs existed.

Even though they have tons in common at face value, SL seems to function on a higher level and in a different way than a majority of the games created. It seems like they had a message they wanted to spread but had to figure out a way to convey it to people who would actually care in a way that would actually get through to them past all the noise of modern living.

By addressing us directly, I honestly don't feel like they're stepping out of character. By learning their (possibly fake) backgrounds and names, we're simply learning more about the origins of the artists behind this masterpiece. If you haven't noticed, it doesn't seem like any of the cards are "acting out characters" outside of how they'd normally act with good friends with perhaps the exception of Athena, but even then a lot has changed about the game since she was around.

This does lead to a second question - if the PMs asked the original bunch of players to recruit, have the PMs contacted you guys directly, as PMs, or through characters?

I can answer this one.

I was recruited from Satims call off of ARGnet and her call for help on here. As I met people and wanted to get more involved... I tried to get more people involved through telling them about the fun I was having just being a part of this group.

I think there were more that were contacted from the charaters... but most of us just wanted to help.
