Game Launch and its Consequences, please read

Now that AWARE has officially launched, I'd like to take a moment and go over the consequences for our communication here on unFiction. The reason I feel the need for this is mainly because I have been contaced by a lot of new players that are confused by the whole taking sides concept.

The concept itself, wether we want to call it ARG or something different, has been discussed in length in various META-threads and I won't go into that here. What we need to realise though is that because of the way the game is shaped, we will be having several 'issues' if we keep posting on unFiction the way we have been doing during pre-game.

Posting info from the three 'sides' (Omniscient Eyes, The Restorers or Ideltech) on these public forums could potentially spoil the game for other players, because

1) it can ruin the fun and mystery of figuring out what the other side is working on
2) people would be able to 'misuse' information from uF in-game, which could create problems we've had enough of in the past.

Therefor I would like to urge everyone to make use of the forums at Immersion Unlimited, which were specifically designed to deal with these issues. I know it feels like "dividing up" the community to some players, but please try to look at the novelty-factor of it as well: the competition it creates could also add to the immersion.

These boards on unFiction would then be used for META-discussion, out-of-game-subjects, discussion of puzzles public to all three sides, and updates to publicly available game-websites. I really do think that if we try to stick with keeping in-game info hidden from the other two sides, this adds to the excitement of the game in total. Of course, when puzzles lose their crucial importance, they can also be posted here for lurkers, rubberneckers and other forms of spectators. For these categories of players I'd also like to remark that applying for one of the three sides does not automatically imply you are actively playing the game: you can still just spectate, but only for one of the three sides... (I'm somewhat of a rubbernecker myself Smile)

I think Wishi's solution here would be the best for everyone involved. Let each player choose their level of spoilage. Smile

Imho that would make uF unnecessarily elaborate and it won't solve my issue #2. To be sure, this was exactly what IU was created for, so it would be a bit double if we were to recreate that situation on uF...

I don't think it's a good idea to be chasing people away from this forum. You will be locking people out of the game, and no longer have a reliable source of in-game information, exactly what the problem was with the first PM/Board discussions.

It is not my intention to chase people away. There's still more than enough stuff that needs to be discussed here, it's just the "one side only" info that needs to be disclosed if we want to play this game the way it is meant to be played.

If you scroll through the four forums in the AWARE category, you'll see that it is hardly a lot of stuff that fits better on IU then on uF. It's just that discussing stuff like Marcus' puzzle out in the open kinda spoils the fun and disables the option for Ideltech people to have a "secret chat"... in my opinion that kinda cripples the game somewhat.

I'd like to stress the fact that I only post this because I've got a lot of reactions of new players that are very confused by the way info has been posted here. I'd only like to point at the option the game itself provides to secure this information while having a place for open discussion (uF) as well.

I totally agree with Giskard.
Specially after seeing how Marcus had to kick people away from his chat, it demonstrates we cannot share info anymore just because there are players that missuse posted info Sad
