Thanks and much appreciated!

The problem is that most people are going to use youtube, which in and of itself has horrible quality... combine that with the fact that you're trying to fit a 35MM or Digital 3D or even worse and IMAX/IMAX-3D image into a non-widescreen format... You get the quality we have now.

Be happy with youtube, or pay the ten bucks to watch it in theatres, then sneak over to the next showing of Beowulf and watch it again...

If only Paramount or better, Apple got around to posting it we'd have excellent quality examples to work with.

YouTube is 4:3 aspect ratio, as mjames alluded to, and the movie screen is closer to the 16:9 of widescreen TVs and computer monitors. Anything you'd put on YouTube (or most other video hosting sites) will be reduced to a 4:3 ratio, one way or another. If you are lucky it'll letterbox it, but there's still that other issue of resolution. YouTube is natively 320x240, which is very low. Your TV is just a bit more than 640x480 (which is why old NTSC TVs make poor monitors), and HD is either 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080 (1080i).

The best quality image resolution and size I am aware of that could be uploaded to a video sharing site would be Stage6, which is the DivX video hosting site. However, we are still faced with how anyone is going to get a better recording...

Are you kidding me? Just look at how crappy the footage is everyone is trying to retape? Laughing

Here's a better idea: ask Beth or Lily or whoever it was that is into photography to loan you a tripod, and show you how to set exposure. Then worry about the kind of camera that can do well at the low light and achieve a proper white balance at the same time.
