Honestly... my question was always this...
is this going to be like the Original Godzilla (Monster destroys city, nothing we can do to stop it)
or
will there be a surprise twist where some other monster comes and saves us (see Godzilla after 1964)
It would be crazy as hell to see our "savior" creature, and watch some really cool CG fight scene from a person's POV...

it isnt SOL.
look at the poster. look at the hole in the city, look at the position of the statue. unless it got up, threw its own head into the city, walked around for a bit, then thought it would just go chill out for a bit back in its original position... i doubt it.

Besides, if we've learned nothing else from Ghostbusters II, we should remember the SoL walking down the streets of New York would get a police escort, not an artillery barrage.
And more importantly, that scene from Ghostbusters II also ruined any chance of someone doing the SoL as a monster because it would look like a corny rip-off.

animaniacs, again with the GB2 reference!!! that always brightens my day.
I made a new a topic about this but i will throw it in here too i guess, The poem on book that the statue of liberty is holding is called The New Colossus. Which i find pretty interesting. Seeing as how this new "Colossus" smacked her head off.

Polar Bear: I doubt we're going to be forcefed any kind of sympathy for the monster. A lot of movies do that, but it just seems to go so far against the grain of what JJ is building this up as. I think we're supposed to be frightened of that thing the whole way through.
What will be interesting, if the movie does well, is the "extended universe" stuff that could spawn from it. All the theories about the drilling and sea nectar and whatnot...I really doubt we'll get much on that in the film, but it could make for some great comics/novels later.

Firstly I would like to say that I hate this theory that the line "Its alive!" means that people are shocked that it was once not alive and now is Thats just stupid. By that logic it would also have the same effect with the "Huge" part.
Frankly, its fairly obvious that the line "Its alive! Its Huge!" is a) the guy essentially saying "Holy Shit! That big explosion was caused by a big fucking monster! A monster!", its not every day you see a monster cause a large amount of destruction in Downtown New York, so of course hes bewildered that the thing causing this is both alive and huge.
Secondly, the SoL theory is also pretty...well...stupid. Other then the fact we see the SoL being in place, I doubt if JJ is lame enough to make the Monster the SoL, then again I was wrong about the trailer before Beowulf. Secondly, if the SoL got up and started walking, alot more people would mention. See "The SoL has come a-fucking-life! I think I smoked waay too much pot" instead of "Its alive! Its huge".
As for why the word "Its alive" comes up in both trailers, its probably to try and emphasize the point that this thing is ALIVE, not a robot, not a statue and not a terrorist cell.

The whole SoL Thing Honestly People, Please read more carefully and stop putting words into people's mouths. I do not think anyone was implying that it WAS SoL! I beleive what was said was...it came out of SoL or took the FORM of SoL. Obviously it is not SoL as the statue is there on Ellis Island. Alittle more attention to detail would be apreciated and would stop this craziness.
BTW: it does look like SoL's face on the stop motion doesn't it?

- The SOL/movie poster
- the chocolate rage robot striking the SOL pose w/torch (wrong arm)
- SOL head flying through city
- frightened crowd seems to recognize the monster
- JJ said we would get an "american" monster
- its completly unexpected, yet hiding in plain sight
- would be humanoid, robot-like if SOL
- maybe monster has some intelligence; thinks we revere the SOL as a god ,so takes it shape to create more shock and awe
- finally this would just be very original and cool as hell![/quote]
I agree with what you are saying here. BTW have you seen this picture? Look at the right side of the building where the head should come out. Do you see a face?

I gotta say that if it has anything to do with the SoL besides her getting her head ripped off that would be the ubersuckiest idea ever. I mean sure it worked in Ghostbusters II but attack of the SoL??? please..

Maybe, Just saying... Unfortunatly, most monster movies never live up to the hype.

That's why it's reasonable to assume that they might not even show the monster in full at all...because it is really really hard to live up to hype of this magnitude.

I highly doubt we'll ever see the full monster in the movie. If we think about how JJA likes to let our imagination fill in the blanks, much like a good book, we'll get enough info to create the BEST MONSTER EVARRR -- in our own minds. We'll only need to see the monster if this eventually becomes a series instead of a one-shot. How long was it before we learned what killed Greg Grunberg in Lost? Mutant polar bears? Ominous smoke entities? Neither of those were what the speculators had in theorized. Heck, even the "Others" were long thought to be savages or mutants, not uber-smart geeks with guns and corporate funding. That doesn't mean I wouldn't want to see it, I just don't think we will know until premiere day.
Just my 2 cents, you don't have to agree, I won't hate ya.

The point was missed here big time... The suggestion was that maybe the monster takes on the shape of the SOL. Maybe its an aggregate of smaller monsters that can combine, hence shape into a larger creature like the SOL.

There have been theories of the monster being the SoL and thats what most of my post was in response to. However, the fact that the SoL or monster that looks like the SoL is still lame.
