Sooo... What the heck is the point of all this?
A question from a new passenger.

Today on MySpace, a new passenger was asking me what I thought the point of SilverLadder was, and I feel like this could lead to interesting discussion here on the forum. So guys, what the heck is the point of all this? Is there a point?

My response:
We're not quite sure, and that seems entirely intentional. The original Bad Scary Place (which was what got me into Silver Ladder to begin with) had quite prevalent Dadaist themes. That is to say, it had no point of being, atleast on the surface. The hardest part about Dadaism at the time when it was conceived in the early 1900's was trying to convince people that something that admitted it had no point was also a significant movement, and here the air of mystery kind of gives the same 'important' vibe.

In my opinion, the point of SilverLadder is to figure out what you want to take away from the experience itself, and in the end everyone is going to be different in that respect. In a way, it's a game and the point is to be entertained. Likewise, it's a way of artistic thinking and the goal is to create a new school of thought in the art world. Not only that, but it could also be said to be a philosophy preaching that creativity and change can be achieved through collaboration and interconnectedness of thought. Like it was said in the audio/video message to new passengers, all of these are right and all of these are wrong.

SilverLadder is just like any abstract art piece. The meaning may not be clear, but the message the viewer takes away from it and the lessons they learn about themselves in the process are just as meaningful as if they had come about them in any other way. In the end it doesn't matter what the creator(s) intended the piece to be since the viewer will perceive it just a little differently.

I don't know the point, but I know the feeling.

I don't know the point but I know the feeling.

It feels like you have been dropped in the middle of nowhere and told you have to fix the foo-foo valve.

Except...

You don't know where the foo-foo valve is,
If you find the foo-foo valve you may not know what it looks like, and
You may not know how to fix it.

However,

For some strange reason, you know in the end, the foo-foo valve will be fixed.

Pretty hard to debate, and I think it does seem to figure out what the SL PMs really want us to believe at the moment. The theory doesn't explain the purpose of the "Korp", though, so I do think maybe it has some political undercurrents as well.

With the recent addition of 2D's work, I'd say it would be safe to say there are going to be quite a few messages throughout this that will criticize elements of society. Korp does not necessarily represent the government and therefore is not necessarily political, it represents corruption in any form--be it society, government, religion, art, etc-- where the individual loses personal identity.
