So if it's a clock, does that mean this takes place in a 24 hour timespan, and it's almost been 22 hours since the attack started? Nah, Rob says 7.5 hours or so, and that's near the end. I just seems so odd that something so clear would sneak past the editors of the trailer, like the 63 degrees in January thing.

This is only causes a problem if you believe the entire movie will be shot with a single camera. If we have the main camera (HUD) and we have a second, omniscient camera that sometimes comes in, or military footage spliced in, it makes this not a problem.

Sorry about the poor grammar. I'm still in that cram, cram, cram, find info mode.

It's definitely a clock. I've seen it before. And the temperature.

In these photos you can see it's attached to the watchtower building:

New thought on clock. All of those clocks auto-update, but if the place that was sending them info (say a computer, a wireless router, a satellite dish) was destroyed or lost power, it could concievably stick at whatever time it was last given. I've seen this happen on a small scale by plugging a digital clock into a computer chip and then stopped sending signal

It could be 9:56 AM? I mean it should be daylight by then but maybe enough smoke has risen into the air to block out the sun.

Is it possible that Rob makes the 7 hour comment in the middle of the timeline rather than after all the monster stuff is over? If not, then I suspect this is something that can fixed before the movie is released.

I don't think so. It looks much lighter in the helicopter video and clips.

The other option is that its intentional. Because to me, it doesnt look like a time.

Its 956 not 9:56.

Of course, I could be wrong

Geuss what. Theres a 956 inc.

www.956.jp

Probaly OOG, but it might be worth a check using the whois thing.

The object's moving downward as the monster moves behind the Woolworth Building... I think the segment you've highlighted is a chunk of skyscraper with the bits ringed in red being the windows.

The best site for those sorts of things, Cloverfield Clues

Evil, from the pics I could find, it only displayed temperature... so maybe it's like those time/temp signs they have on banks. If the time's accurate, it's screwy, if not, accidental continuity error. It's cetainly attached to the 'WATCHTOWER' part of the sign:

true...but if there was a sea monster in Manhattan...I still don't know if I would get on a bridge. SOL is not too far from the bridge. You can even see it from the bridge, I think.

Actually, the statue is on the opposite side of the island from the Brooklyn Bridge... and there's a considerable distance as to how far away from Manhattan it is.

Well... I mean, I've driven across the bridge a lot. I used to live in Brooklyn. It could be some other message, but that sign always has the time or temp. on it, as I've said.

No, it's not. You can see the SOL from Brooklyn. The SOL is at the very southern tip of Manhattan. If it was on the complete opposite side of Manhattan it would be by Stuyvesant High School.

ETA: Here's a map:

linky

See Williamsburg bridge? And Brooklyn Battery Tunnel? The Brooklyn Bridge is one yellow line up from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.

ETA again: Here is a much better photo from the Brooklyn Bridge, of the SOL:

Not if we're led to believe the scenes shot with him and that girl (whose name escapes me) are huddling under that bridge in the park, which appears to be where he's recording that message to the viewer.

I hope they didn't mess that up. How lame would that be, especially since that scene is probably longer in the actual movie.
