Yeah. If it was built kind of like a mantis, it'd explain the raised "upper body" mass moving up ahead of the legs, too.

But it most likely comes from the water, and I can;t see something like that surviving down there.

It's definitely not a waterbear, it's definitely not facing us. Sorry.
Well, actually from that picture, it could almost be anything. Frankly, I think it does look like it could be facing the camera and turning.

I see it is top heavy, meaning there is something on it's back further up towards the direction of it's head. But I do not think it is a turtle for two reasons. One is that the shell does not look big enough and Two JJ already said something about it being "New." I love Gamera and own all the movies on DVD but I do not think it will be a turtle.
It does seem bulky foreward of the rear legs and it seems odd to me.

Yeah. My best guess at this point is some kind of underwater arthropod-type...something with a lot of body mass and more legs moving behind the pair that we see, if the hunched forward "turtle" shape is fail. Which is really vague, but.

I agree 100%, I really wonder if this was fan made art. It's too close to be accidental.

Wow, I completely forgot about that fan art. It does look alot like it.
Three possibilities.
1. Pure coincidence.
2. The fan knew more than he lets on
3. The guys making the movie decided to make it look similar to that, possibly because they didnt actually know what the monster looked like themselves at the time.

He may be close but the monter is going to most likely have claws because in the poster there is plenty of claw marks

[INFO] steady cam of hi-def monster My vote is for waterbear So taking cues from several gifs, I created another "steady cam" shot of the monster, my vote is waterbear.
I designed it to loop back and forth, and I think you can see "waterbear stub legs ( link ) " moving in there.
Here's the image I created:
To me there's a ( one of many? ) left leg in the middle of the building-way and then you see a right leg moving from "occluded by the buildings" towards the middle.
Waterbear I say! Definitely not humanoid, like I thought.

nah there was that one guy "remedios" or something who pretended to know a little about the movie... i cant find anything of his storys but he knew VERY little and his infos came in chunks... in his last mail to the person he emailing with he desribed the creature and the fan (he also draws sketches for guild wars) created this sketch with the infos given by "remedios"
