Although it's probably not me , I am envisioning a monster inspired by my kind.

Were they not offering you enough pay? I really want to see a Cthulhu movie someday... Maybe a musical! (The Music of Eric Zann... XD)

Think JJ might have played video games in the late '90s? No connection or anything, but maybe speaks to inspiration. I loved this game:

(I know, I know, it's 'original', it's not a remake...don't attack me I'm just sayin)
I'll be happy if it is loosely 'borrowed' from 'The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms'.
Those rhedosaurus's are quadrupeds but they do pretty well on two legs also And the monster comes out of the ocean and destroys New York.

EDIT: after posting this I found this: http://www.cloverfield-movie.com/blog/?p=109 it's kinda funny. Anybody else ever seen it?

Someone posted it a while back but it was disproven. Some artist guy made it; it's a monster from Forbidden Planet, I think.

There was a paddle at the party KPA? Kappa Phi Alpha? Anyway, The Kappa is of Japanese lore. It has ties with monkies and horses, of all things. You can read about it here http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/kappa.shtml
I couldn't link the pictures but they are worth a look!
Kappa are human-sized, though. And you can eaken them by making them spill the water from their basin-shaped skulls. Not exactly ctiy-destroying material. :/ [/japangeek]
I too hope it's something Lovecraftian. I'd settle for Dagon.

This would strike fear in my heart One of these is worse than any mutant extremophile or isopod:

Wow, after looking at the monster footage from the new trailer, I could totally see the basic shape of this thing being close to what we are actually going to see.
ugly monster model
Having two knees would make the left knee not moving much in the scene we saw make more sense. And it has the vagina that I see in the trailer.
As well, all of the talk about how it seems top heavy and that it must be multi-limbed is solved by this kind of design.
I'm thinking this could be pretty close.

Anything like this guys workl would be cool with me. Sort of Cthulu inspired, and yet looking a little natural at the same time.

...OK...that's really creepy. But funnily enough, I don't think that would be as scary if it were ginormous.
Wait...are those arms or intestines? OK, I take it back. That thing is just disturbing, period.

Visually it looks like the monster has a natural armor, like Rhinoceros.

I'm really hoping it's something like Sin from Final Fantasy X. I think it would work perfectly too....giant sea creature with a history, striking fear into all who even hear its name.
