its clearly a dummy (stiff neck, hair bouncing around like a dummy's) so something tells me they wouldnt use a dummy to illustrate a jacket being opened. so they want us to take note of a fatal occurance. the sound is just sickening as well, squishy and violent. i myself see wings coming out. definitely i think its a hatching of sorts rather than a transformation. shes a host for growth not for symbiosis. these things will be far larger than humans. they'll grow rapidly and learn to fly after a few fumbling attempts. stamp it im calling that.
Oh, well thanks for setteling that for us. I guess we can lock this thread. lol J/K.

Can someone still-cam-gif this in high rez please?
I think it would really help with the opening shirt vs body expansion debate.

I think a blowing jacket would blow up upwars much quicker. it seems to uniform and symetrical to be a jacket fluttering up in the wind. Just my opinion of course.

bloated girl silhouette sequence
let me get this straight... this girl is expanding, she was bleeding from the eyes nose and mouth and there's a giant monster that tore through town and you want a REALISTIC explaination?

Thanks for the pix. :')
I understand that the movie is fantasy on some level, but it's also based on reality in many other ways.
Just throwing out a basis for discussing wtf is going on in this scene.

At first I was all about the exploding theory, but rather than looking at the girl...let's first look at the guys in the hazmat suits. There doesn't seem to be any reaction by them that would suggest something so grotesque as a person exploding in their arms. Personally, I'd freak out if that happened and I'd bet that just about everyone in the world would have the same response if something so unnatural happened in front of them. Combine that with the behavior of the people in front of the curtain and i think we can rule out the explosion theory. We also don't see anything flying from the body. Likewise, expansion is unlikely as well. If your body expanded and contracted at that rate, I would imagine the pain would be excruciating...so much so that your body would collapse instantly.
The more I look at the footage, I want to throw a new theory into the mix, the girl expands and contracts because air from a fan/gust of wind blows up her shirt causing the rapid expansion/contraction. If you look at the girls hair, you can see the hair fly up and down. I don't think all of the hair movement is caused by the hazmat guys.
There's never a contraction, only expansion. The person expands until the scene goes black just before the person pops. Listen to the sound just as the scene goes black.

Opening a jacket or sweater (but she wasn't wearing one, was she?)
Not a jacket or sweater, but she is wearing two shirts...white tank top
w/ dark shirt over top of it. Maybe Bio Brother on right is just removing
top shirt - kinda looks like he bends down abit, maybe pulling it off over
her head. Her turning from side profile to frontal (or rear) profile, while
bloodied top shirt is removed, combined with lighting techniques
(shadowing imagery)...could be. She isn't wearng it in some pics,
so it obviously came off at some point...
If we didn't have the "behind the curtain" pics (Bio Bros. & Lena w/ bloody tank top),
I'd buy the willy wonka version a lil' easier. If the point of the trailer is to
allow our minds to run free with speculation and imagery - I'd say it's workin'...

Anaphylaxis causes swelling of tissues, but not anything like that explosive size.

It looks like to me that the guy to her right is hitting or possibly puncturing her with something just as she starts to swell. like injecting her with presurrized air. It make no sense to me i know. But it looks just as she starts to swell, that he moves his right arm towards her very forcefully as if to hit her or grab her hard or inject or stab. Its a swift movement.
I get the impression he's punching at whatever might be emerging from her abdomen.

You wouldn't react too wildly if you'd seen it before. Medical professionals also are strongly trained to ignore distractions and focus on their patients, even during chaotic circumstances. This would especially be true of any medical personnel involved in emergency response or the military.

concentrate on right hand haz suit guy, his arm moves down and frames her right side as if to make her look wider, her body moves forward and the shadow fills out her silhouette, maybe, maybe not, open minds are best.

Maybe it's something akin to pufferfish toxin? Perhaps the creature secretes a substance that "jams open" the ion channels in a cell, making it think it needs massive amounts of water.... thereby causing the cells to rupture when they get too full. IIRC, pufferfish toxin works in the reverse, but it could be something in the same vein ('scuse the pun).

Couldn't rapid depressurization cause something to explode?

Yes, but they would have to be in an air tight chamber.

They'd have to experience a change in pressure of ~8 atmospheres to explode, and as Motr pointed out, they'd have to be in a sealed room/container. Good thought though.
