[SPEC] Convenience Store Name?
Bodega ------

I've been trying to read the name of the convenience store where the windows implode in the trailer. It's written on the doors to the left, but it is on the outside, so we're seeing it backwards. I'm reasonable sure the first (i.e., top) word is "BODEGA". The second, bottom word is tougher to make out, though. It looks to me like "RAMBLA", but I could definitely see other interpretations, too. To my eyes, the letters are easiest to see near the very beginning of the scene, just after it fades in from black. After the "earthquake", that area is much darker, and the words are too dark to see.

I know this may be a long shot, but I'm looking, as I'm sure many are, for this trailer's equivalent of the Slusho t-shirt from the teaser. In other words, a little visual clue that might take us somewhere new online. I thought perhaps this store might be a purveyor of Slusho, and perhaps we could make a connection, or maybe its frequented by Vern Macdooble; who knows?

Where is that confounded straw? *clutches it* Smile

Just the spanish term for winery or store

Bodega is a term used to describe a winery in Spain. Here in America it is used for the same and also for general purpose , or convenience, stores. The Rambla is most likely referring to the owners name or some other means of identification. My father was stationed in Spain for the army in the late sixties and early seventies and said thats as common a thing to see there as 7-11 here. In Miami and south Florida you see this very often, especially in Cuban areas.. Dont think its a clue, just the name of the store Cool

"La Rambla" or "Las Ramblas" is a major commercial area in Barcelona, Spain.

I've actually been there.

"Bodega" is the equivalent of a small "hole in the wall" convenience store that sells pretty much everything. It's very common to use the name in latin communities.

I live in Miami as well. Smile

I dont live in Miami, i live in Orlando, but have been to Miami hundreds of times over my long life. You see them on almost every corner down there, specially in the ghetto areas.( and i didnt mean anything condescending about that term, nothing wrong with a good ghetto)

Rather than start another thread I figure this is the best place I can find for this...

There's another store I've noticed shown prominently in the trailer and promo pics...

Want a donut?
Maybe they will sell Slusho?

It's even possible the Bodega they hide in is also on that street set, judging by how intact their clothes are.

Bodega/Hawk and Lil's Place

On Hawk's myspace page, Lil leaves a note discussing the fact that there are three bodega's on the street near where they live. Maybe the fact that they are in the bodega is a clue as to who's house the party is at. Hawk and Lil are throwing the party, monster attacks, everybody runs outside and a couple of the Slusho 7 take refuge in one of the three bodega's near Hawk and Lil's place.

i already posted this in another forum - just copy & paste it - just a theory about the shop

check those quotes carefully... its definitvly the same street
(if you dont see it... check for "THE TEXT" to the right and check the buildings)

SOL`s Head hits the street
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/181/solheadtextaj8.jpg

At 0:48 in HD Trailer
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/4482/thetextcm0.jpg

Monster Attack
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/4262/umwtfoc7py3.jpg

so is it possible the run away after the SOL`s head is thrown into the street (as seen in the 0:48 picture) where lots of people are running away so rob and co decide to hide in some store in the same street... the monster goes along the the street but withdraws because the army is coming its way ?! they go out after they notice... see the army pushing and rush into the subway??? cant check HD trailer right now if there is a store that has been destroyed by the monster... so its just a theory

The timeline seems to be something like this:

*Rob arrives at the party and the festivities begin.
*Said festivities are swiftly brought to an end as soon as the monster roars.
*Rob and Hud are on the roof when the explosion rocks Downtown Manhattam.
*Rob, Marlena, Hud and Lily run out of the building and onto the street, as people rush past them heading Uptown they see the cloud of dust and witness the head of the Statue of Liberty being thrown and hurtling the the ground on Boardway.
*As the army appears on the scene and opens fire, the group is split up as they dive to hide by the cars, Rob and Lily stay on the Hudson River side of the street whilst Hud and Marlena hide on the East River side of the street. They watch as the army fires at the creature with conventional guns and tanks.
*At some point they dive into the Bodega store, but are possibly sent running after it's severely compromised, running through a few streets before they reach a Subway station, getting in just in time as something huge explodes above. From there they walk along the tracks towards Uptown.

MMm... Dunkin' Donuts. I hope this isn't another I, Robot; Product plugs with the occasional bad plot device.

As realism has been behind a lot of it then obviously Dunkin' Donuts and Budweiser are two examples of that... although hopefully the survivors of the Slusho 7 won't save the day by killing the monster with cholesterol from the donuts or alcohol coma from the beer. Razz
