[Trailhead?] Dr. Benjamin Descartes

This is very exciting, I almost never get trailheads via email! Anyways, I got this very ARGish email today:

Quote:

You stand on the edge of the abyss. Darkness presses in on all sides. There is nothing left for you here, nothing left in this world.

She is dead.

Darkness, all around.

Nothing.

You jump.

It is from "Dr. Benjamin Descartes" (douwant2flySPLATgmail.com)

To which i responded:

Quote:
How can I fly to avoid a certain death? The jump was purely on
impulse! I wish I could take it back. Can you teach me to fly?

Please let me know if this is already part of another ARG.

Later gator, tehmasterplan

I simply answered:
Quote:
Yes, I want to fly. Can you teach me how to do it?

Not too creative I know.

he responded to my email:

Quote:
like my father before me i choose eternal sleep

i responded:

Quote:
what are the benefits of eternal sleep then? perhaps i should continue
to fall. Are you an angel? A ghost perhaps?

edit: I just translated "Descartes", it's spanish for "You rule out" according to freetranslation.com and also "discardings" according to babel fish

the name rene descartes is really important for philosophy, mathematics, and generally how we look at the world--you cant say the name descartes without referring to him, just like the names einstine or hitler

he was the writer of "i think therefore I am"

and the inventor of cartesian space (cordinate, grid system)--which is loosely connected to new media/digital philosophy (some suggest we wouldnt have the internets if we didn't have descartes theories first)--also think the holodeck (the grid system that shows up when it is turned off) or second life

I got the exact same answer.

I replied:
Quote:
If you chose eternal sleep how are you able to communicate with me?

Also, in what way does eternal sleep differ from death?

Like My Father Before ME

Just to make a note on this... I thought I recognized this phrase and I did! It is from the movie - The Game - if someone in this forum has not seen it I would be seriously surprised.

Thought I would just throw that out there!

Intriguing, looking forward to seeing what replies you get next.

Googling for "Benjamin Descartes" reveals some kind of homepage at http://drdescartes.spruz.com/

Quote:
Dr. Descartes is at the forefront of Human Flight technology. Haunted by his past, this website explains everything.

There's a fair amount of metadata in the page source, but can't see anything too revelationary...

If the website explains everything, how come it does not say much?

Am I missing something? Mad

i wouldnt worry yet i think its more the free website hosting thats doing the scamming here, not the potential pm. The price you pay for trying to run a free game, im not saying its a bad thing but the adverting attempts are a reality.
