[spec] Decrypting the Trailer I am an editor who specializes in movie trailers. And seeing as how you are all searching for answers, I thought I might make a suggestion.
The Cloverfield trailer is filled with flash frames of various motion graphics elements made to look like electrical interference or camera glitches. All of these elements were created in a program like After Effects, and are obviously not actual camera malfunctions. In my career, I have spent an incalculable number of hours creating such elements, and they are almost ALWAYS created using source footage from the movie. To me, this would seem to be a logical place to hide clues...or to look for them.
Many of the images that flash on the screen show an incredible amount of interlacing artifacts that, in truth, look nothing like the camera glitches they are meant to represent. I would not be surprised if these artifacts were something along the lines of two or three important images who's interlaced fields have been mixed to create the glitch effect.
Also, there is a strange interference that comes up several times (ie, 0:45-0:46 in the trailer on Apple.com). Later in the trailer, these same graphics (or similar graphics) flash on the screen a couple of times before revealing the name JJ Abrams, or other on-screen text. Its possible that these markings have meaning beyond the implication that the camera is being pushed to its physical limits.
I'm a busy guy, so I don't have the time to figure it out, but if anyone out there feels so inclined, I suspect that there is something there. If there is, cool. If not, sorry. Get a job.

excellent point! i noticed this right after the girl supposedly 'explodes' (still not sure what is happening there)
when the camera fades away after the lovely sound effects, there is some glitching of the video, it looks like it could be text even, i have a screencap at home! i will post them when i get home

I was intrigued by this idea and took to looking at the trailer again, in seperate frames. This time only when weird things are going on with the camera.
I found some odd things. First, the 'camera glitches' all seem to be the exact same structure.
And second, even stranger (I think) is that there is one single frame of 'snow' static. Not a flickering of a couple of frames, but just one frame where the static does not move. This is a 00:54 of the apple trailer.
It looks strikingly similar to one of those paintings where if you put your eyes out of focus you get to see a 3D image in the choas. I forgot what those things are called. I can only ever see something in the easiest of those, but maybe someone else can try?
Pause the video there and see if you can see something in the static.

They're called stereograms. I guess we can try, but it doesn't quite look like one to me.

Doubtful they'd put something like a stereogram in a split-second picture of static. I've been through the whole trailer and haven't seen a thing in the glitches.

Maybe tonight I'm prone to wild speculation, but It's pretty late for me and what the hey!
At the scene with the carriage, there is smoke in the background. Are there any chances that this isn't really smoke? I went forward and back frame by frame and it seems to act weird. Anyone else want to try and see if they see the same things as me?
Probably a big waste of time, and I'm probably delirious.

Wizkey, I noticed the same smoke and thought something was up too! I can't imagine that we can find anything in the smoke right now though. I believe that we won't know if that is smoke or Mr. Grumpypants until the movie comes out, sadly

LOL! I tried this yesterday on several of the static frames. There was one near the beginning i believe and 2-3 frames near the middle to the end.
I wasn't able to get a picture from it . . . but i may be out of practice.

This has been debunked multiple places.

Damn, if my mom was still with me, I 'd have her look at them. She was like the MASTER at finding the images hid away.
Theres no way to like...I unno, arrange the frame to make it interlaced again and possibly see something? I unno

How about some of the audio glitches? Especially the "fast forwarding" parts... if we slow that down enough, will we hear something?

I'd try that aslong as no one told what they thought they heard. Cause, ya know. I and most people will hear the same thing
