I think the wake is supposed to show where it came from, not necessarily be an accurate image of what exactly happened at which moment. And the debris could just be stuff blowing off of the statue, or, just for effect.

ugh okay sorry. but as an artist, I'm not sure I'd have done it this way. It sends unnecessarily crazy messages to already crazy people who are looking for crazy messages.

^^ i dont see anything different about the city from that poster and the old one

There is a wider shot of the city. Notice how there are no buildings on the right now? Before (at least in the images I've seen of the old poster) that part of the city was cut off.

thats because manhattan is an island and there are no buildings past that point.

also as for the debris and the wake and smoke and statue facing the wrong way and the sun rising on the wrong side of the earth, old news. the poster just looks cool like that.

I'm fully aware that NYC is on an island. The buildings don't just stop like that anywhere in lower manhattan though. Here's a pic I found which shows what should be there:

EDIT: Disregard...the closer I look at the new poster...the more it looks like I see the top of a bridge in the background to the right of the buildings. I'll stick my foot back in my mouth now....

Its hard to make out the bridge to the right of the buildings in the poster. Either way, there isn't empty land in lower manhattan and that's what I thought I saw when I first looked at this new poster. I was wrong and I admit that.

EDIT: I was at least correct in that the area in question was not originally visible:

The base of the SOL is not that close to the ocean surface. What happened to Liberty Island??

You do realise the rest of Pedestal is off the bottom of the poster?, even though they may not have bothered rendering the Island it may have been left off for artistic effect.

what I still don't understand is why there's stuff falling off of her as if something had JUST swiped the head off but the trail in the water and the other buildings look as if the thing has been in the city for a while... Do you guys see those flying debris around the neck? Either there are some smaller beasties still going at it, or the designer of this poster does not understand how time works.

That's a little thing known as 'Dramatic Effect' and 'Artistic Licence'.

artistic freedom and also to hint at the idea that the monster can swim or is from the ocean

Took the words right out of my mouth exactly. Artistic freedom or artistic liscense. A movie poster is supposed to tell a story, to draw u in , make u want to see it. If they just show the after effects of the attack, like its been over with for hours, then theres really no effect in that., but if u show it as if the destruction has just occured, well that gives it more umpf ( if thats an acceptable word, lol )
