I don't know how much of a stretch this might be, but with you guys talking about candles and stuff I think it would be cool to post something about a fake incident, such as a protest or something at The Effect Blog.

Like a bunch of guys from The Effect putting ParaFun Candles over Body Bags at the sidewalk of Tagruato Headquarters. Or vandalizing the their propaganda.

You know, maybe with some of the activists arrested.

Just read the posts here - to make sure I've followed the events properly:

Someone has to call, then punch in 9, then a four-digit number, then pound, and then a password, and then pound again, and then something exciting will hopefully happen. So, we're looking for a four digit number, and a password. Is that right?

Precisely.

Also, 12thmonkey, that is...genius. I don't think I'd have the skill to write an article for the Effect, but meh, I might try something..hopefully someone with more talent will pick up on it, tho.

thnx!

I was afraid I could get blazed for sounding too much like game-jacking

I'll post it in the "Join the Cause" thread, guess it is where that idea belongs

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22217&start=435

Just a thought....

It sounds like a good idea, but we dont want to assume stuff. Like we dont actually know whether or not Tagruato is evil, or if any of their stuff is dangerous.

Keep in mind we dont want to try and put stuff into the story thats not supposed to be there.

Even so, I like the idea of a protest.

"mmm...maybe someone should try punching in the 4 numbers from the Tagruato hacked picture... "

12345?

Well, not 12345 exactly, but I thought there was a regular # next to the roman numeral. I can't find the exact post that listed them.. So maybe the roman numeral is the order you punch it in, and the actual # is what you press?

I think you might be talking about the '2' which was next to the octopus.

There was a site found a while back - www.3912.jp.

I think someone said it was for a dermatologist...? I dunno - on my screen, it's all gibberish (and some Japanese). It was found back when the pic came out on 1-18-08.com w/the recipe on the back (because "3912" was at the end of the recipe). Anyway, it was decided then that this 3912.jp site was OOG.

I only mention in here because there's a four digit number at the end of the site (or, bottom of 1st page of site): "9487."

Prob. nothing, but thought I'd mention it anyway.

So the numbers we have to use at this point for a possible extension/password # are:

18 - because of the email address 18dkageshimaSPLATgmail.com
3912 or 3921 or something... - Chef's card
6 - You Can't Drink Just Six + jamieandteddy.com video + cloverfieldthemovie.com redirects to myspace profile of number6 (though that may just be a gamejack)
Numbers on Ravaille Research Center's report

Plus the mysterious comments on The Effect, but I'm VERY suspicious of the legitimacy of those.

It would really help, obviously, if we knew how long the password was - I assume it's a word, and that it translates to numbers on a telephone keypad.

It's tempting to think TIDO (or TIDOO, TIDOK?) is the password, b/c of the roman numerals and names on the hacked Tagruato site. One problem with this is that the password is a Tagruato password, and that hacked page is NOT from Tagruato (presumably, it's from "The Cause").

On the other hand, the password would not realistically be hidden on a Tagruato website, e.g., the Slusho page ("Hammer" or "Mitten"). Why would a company hide a password on it's own website?

So, maybe the password really IS on the hacked page - it's encoded there, as a message from "The Cause" - to allow other people access to Tagruato's information, etc. So, we're back to TIDO again. Another possibility is to use the Latin Genus and/or Species names for each sea creature:

I - Tanner Crab - Chionoecetes bairdi
II - Irukandji Jellyfish - Carukia barnesi
III - Dumbo Octopus - Grimpoteuthis [Note the similarity here to "Grumpypants"! ... Grumpyteeth?] Laughing
IV - Ogrefish (aka "Fangtooth") - Anoplogaster cornuta

So, TIDO or TcIjDoOf? Or, CCGA.. CbCbGAc..?

It's really difficult to guess without knowing the parameters - how many letters, etc.?

Also, I noticed while looking these up that both the Ogrefish and the Dumbo Octopus are "benthic" or "abyssal" creatures, i.e., they live very deep. The Irukandji Jellyfish has that nasty sting, which leads to "Irukandji syndrome." The only thing I could see interesting about the Tanner Crab is that it was overfished between 1996 and 2006 - something "The Cause" might be interested in. Also, the Tanner Crab is often mistaken for the Opilio crab, and the Ogrefish also has identity issues... the juvenile form looks so different from the adult form that biologists had classified one form (juvenile, i think) as Genus Caulolepsis, until they realized they were the same animal at different life stages. So, we've got a whole mess of possibilities for assembling a password. Hurm...

While this probably means absolutely nothing, but didn't 5 drilling stations open up a year before the overfishing? February 5th or something?
