New Puzzle on IU by Broken Latchkey

Well I see a new puzzle this morning, in the form of a big spammy post. At least, it looks like a puzzle.

If you look at it, it's apparently lines from various literary works. I've figured out the sources though (spoiler below):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The Bible - Hosea
Stephen W. Hawking - A Brief History of Time
Arthur C. Clarke - A Space Odyssey
Leo Tolstoy - What to Do? (first part - On Labor and Luxury)
H. G. Wells - The Island of Dr. Moreau
Kobo Abe - The Ark Sakura
Bran Stoker - The Lair of the White Worm
Kristine Kathryn Rusch - Echea
J. R. R. Tolkien - A Hobbit's Tale
Amelia Edith Huddleston Barr - Remember the Alamo
Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) - The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Oscar Wilde - The Duchess of Padua
Joseph Conrad - Lord Jim
William Shakespeare - Othello
John Steinbeck - Cannery Row
L. Frank Baum - The Wizard of Oz

And as to the only important thing I've noticed:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
They're all the first words of the first chapters/acts/sections of these works.

hm

I also note that there are a few typos sprinkled throughout, but they don't seem to have rhyme or reason to them. I think someone manually copied from somewhere...

hehe

OK - puzzle wasn't too hard, after all Smile

People trying to play along - I missed 1 title, and I got a poor online reference to another, so it needs changing.

Then it should become relatively apparent.

Toodles. Smile

When I googled for
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
mowz - the solve above is are you a man or a mowz
I was startled to find
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

puzzle listed.

I tried to follow that puzzle and how it was solved but it was incomprehensible as I had no idea what it was.

Any help?

Did you try checking out Cloudmakers? The info on the guide is pretty good (I just went through it a few months ago, so it's pretty fresh in my mind). There are a couple of "mistakes" - but it seems more to do with the files being on cloudmakers.org now rather than being actual errors. The first thing I found that was where it says to change the page extension to .asp. You actually have to change the extension to .htm (or maybe .html - either way, it's the opposite of the page you first get). I also had problems typing Gyorg or Georg into the department search - nothing would come up. The guide gives you a broken link to an .asp page. If you change the extension to .html you'll see what typing in Georg would give you. (I found that to be the case on most of the broken links in the guide. You just need to do some creative renaming, and 9 times out of 10 you'll find what you were looking for).

The worst part about the guide is that it gives you links to the yahoo group files to show some puzzle solves and what not. Unless you're a member of the group you can't see them. And to in order to join, the moderator has to admit you. I tried joining when I first started reading the guide a few months ago, so I could look at the files, but no one loves me enuf to let me in. Crying or Very sad If anyone was to let me in, they would have my undying love and affection Very Happy
